Moto G - Notification Bar Shows 3G or H?

I've set my friend up with a Moto G on T-Mobile. She tells me that her notification bar is showing "3G" when connected to the data network. From the reviews and videos that I've seen, I've always seen an "H" indicating connection to the HSPA network. Does displaying "3G" and not "H" mean that she's not connected to HSPA? I don't want to have her run speed tests since she's only on the 500MB high speed plan, but I just want to make sure that her phone isn't defective. What would "3G" indicate a connection to?

Does the Moto G not show G, E and H like my Nexus 5? Thanks in advance.

phone is NOT defective... should be some APN settings or maybe there is no HSPA in that area..

dont know what T-Mobile display for HSPA. it is H in ATT

For ST/Net10, Moto G shows "3G" when HSPA+

Postpaid T-Mobile. It shows 3G but feels pretty fast. What would differentiate showing 3G or H? Is it programmed into the SIM Card?

I looked at the Engadget review and the photos they displayed had 3G/3G+.

It depend on the phone, it's just graphic, the label on one phone could differ for another. T-Mobile consider their HSPA+ connected as 4G.

To really know if you get HSPA, go to settings -> About phone -> Status, and look under 'mobile network type'.

I think it depends either on APN or operator.

I played with various APN's and can confirm it affects the speed.
Some APN will restrict download speed up to 21MB/s (that would be the 3G+) and other setting will let you fly your device up to 42MB/s which would be the H/H+ symbol.
But the most accurate is the steps in above post.

Go to Settings/About phone/Status/Mobile network type. That will show you whether it is HSPA or HSPA+

what is the difference between H and H+ BEFORE lolloy pop in my moto g phone it was show h+ after 3g net pack
but now showimg only h

in my MOTO G2 not displaying H ar E synbol when data is on
