Moto G - Unable to connect to PC

Mtp device won't install. AutoRun Wizard says cannot install this hardware.
I am using windows xp. I am pretty sure this is a driver issue.
I tried a lot of different things since yesterday but no luck.
Please help.

A little update.
I found a post saying to edit wpdmtp.inf file and add my hardware device id manually.
I did do it and the result are -

MTP mode - A drive is listed as MTP device in My Computer. On opening it is empty.
PTP mode - Detected as camera but same as MTP mode. Empty.

Any suggestions?

Did you figure this out? None of the above solutions are helping here, on xp sp3. Oddly, no driver issues last week. Phone must have updated and broken the drivers. Figures, every android update is a downgrade. Lollipop, broke application firewall, timerific, cell toggle, captive portal scripts, most of my sd utility, auto lux adjustment, now mtp. And 12 other essential items, that you don't think about until broken.

And, I lothe trying to google a solution, only to get posters telling others to google. 99.99 percent of people reading the page are here via google-never having visited the forum before.
