Re: Motorola Event

Dawg you gotta read all da post b4 posting homie

Well after your comment I went back and reviewed all the posts, that I did read, and there isn't a single link to the Moto Mobility page on G+ that states the following, posted at 9:35 this morning.

"t's almost time! Starting at 1AM CT (Sep. 5), check back here as we start unveiling the new portfolio of Moto products. And, join us tomorrow at 1:30 PM CT (Sep. 5) for our "First Look" live Q&A-- you can even start posting your questions now using #askmoto"

But thanks for the pointers...

Looks like today is a private press event (9-4) and tomorrow is the real launch, what a bummer!

A comment from a moto employee on that post also said they're announcing first thing tomorrow and then having a live google hangout tomorrow at 1:30pm CT

Don't worry homie.

Re: No public news on X+1 until tomorrow 9/5 (possibly 1:30pm CDT)

All Motorola put out was a press invite for the 4th. None of it said anything about a presentation or live stream. Tech blogs ran with it and people made assumptions.
People made assumptions because that is what is expected. Also they had a "not much longer" tweet that was public.

To clarify, I am not saying moto is wrong in this. I am just saying that they are stupid. Samsung and Apple do big announcements for several good reasons. Having a vague announcement and nothing more than a hangout(that I bet will be informal) for your yearly flagship is moronic.

The lack of bleeding edge specifications + a low key launch is part of the reason Motorola isn't experiencing the level of success that Samsung has had. Motorola clearly has the superior device for phone capabilities due to their superior antennas and superior battery life but beyond that they've fallen behind.

Here's to hoping that the devices are better planned/developed than the event.

Samsung Galaxy S5 (Verizon)

Re: Motorola Event

weeds out the spammers
I think

Do you have the x?

Nexus 5. Curious about the X+1 but not sure it I will get it. Don't really want to loose wireless charging as I now have charge pads everywhere. Will probably pick up a 360 though,.

So Motorola is stupid because they didn't meet your expectations. I get it.

HTC has events like Samsung and Apple. They're not even close in marketshare though.

Re: No public news on X+1 until tomorrow 9/5 (possibly 1:30pm CDT)

For whatever reason, Moto decided to do it this way. Am I upset, sure, but mostly because I was excited for today. But now it will be tomorrow. What I cant understand is why they did it this way. I think this is a real missed opportunity. The X was a great device, but didn't move much volume compared to other manufacturers in the past year. With IFA going on, you would think that they would want to make a real splash with the launch, not only of the X+1 but the 360. I would have thought the Lenovo (has the deal closed?) would have wanted to step up the game.

..it was never meant to be the way you wanted it to be.

Motorola never planned a big Apple/Samsung-like event.

To move volume, you need to spend on ads like Apple and Samsung do. Your product could be the best. Your product could be better than the competition. But if you're not marketing it like Apple and Samsung do, you won't do those kind of numbers.

And the sale to Lenovo is not yet final.

Condescending much?

Moto is stupid because they are not using a strategy that works. Instead of hyping up their brand and flagship products with a proper public launch event, they appear to be vaguely soft launching their whole fall lineup. Including the highly anticipated 360. Maybe they will have more than I expect tomorrow in the hangouts session, but I am expecting nothing more than a glorified promo video and an embargo lifted early in the day beforehand. That will let the journalists write the announcement narrative instead of Moto taking control themselves.

Maybe i will be wrong, but I see nothing to indicate otherwise. They should have sent out a public invitation to the hangouts session tomorrow a week ago instead of letting everyone grasp for straws.

Condescending? Just clarifying. According to your posts, Motorola is stupid because they're choosing to do what they want to do rather than what you want them to do. Is there something I'm missing?

HTC basically uses the strategy you want, even with "controlled leaks". Then they have a big public event for the launch. Yet, it doesn't lead to Apple and Samsung numbers.

I agree. It's as if they only released the hangouts link after hearing from the disappointed voice of ones who are purchasing, fans such as ourselves.

But what was done was done. It's not going to change anything this time around, maybe next. Let's wait and see what goes on tomorrow.
