Moto X (2014) No sdcard, does this bother you?

Its a deal breaker.16gb. Its more like 13gb of storage...going on a trip capture some 2k video and pics. Download a few games to play while on the airplane. U will find your phone out of space. I like to travel light.so I don't wanna bring my tablet or laptop with me if its possible...yes there's clond storages. But sometimes its slow...due to slow network speed. Cost of adding a SD card slot its not expensive at all..even moto g can afforded..cloud storages, steaming video and music doesn't work well everywhere. For people who travel alot ,people who plays games, people who like to have uncompass music or videos.16g with no externel is a deal breaker.... its always better to have options and cloud should only be use as a form of backup..not as your main storage.

They still offer a 32gig option. Its what I did. Pure Edition too.

An SD card may be something that's easier to do, especially if it's side-loaded via the metal frame rather than a slot on an opened back.

I think the SIM card goes through a slot at the top, right next to the headphone jack on the Moto X. Perhaps Motorola could add a microSD card slot at the top as well, but on the other side of the headphone jack.

While I personally didn't often have the need for removable storage, a microSD card would still be pretty handy. For example, if you have your own car and have a dashboard camera installed (the one that constantly records and overwrites old recordings, not the battery-powered portable cams) - most of them don't have Wi-Fi or even built-in displays and use microSD or full-size SD cards and sometimes it might be useful to remove the card from such camera and insert it into your smartphone so you can immediately review the recording and share it with someone else. Of course, you can do the same through tablet or laptop, but many people don't carry these every day with them ;-)

It bothers me, but I'm coming from 8gb nexus 4.... and jumping to 32gb. A big jump for me. hopefully in 2 years, 64gb will be standard.. at least.

Now that Apple has made 16GB, 64GB, and 128GB their sizes, I fully expect Android OEMs to go to 32GB/64GB for their next gen flagships.

We've had Android phones with 64 GB internal storage and 64 GB microSD card support simultaneously. The new trend is adding support for 128 GB microSD cards.

YES, it bothers me. For all those respondents who said they don't need it, fine. Like someone said in another post, if the slot were there and people didn't use it, I highly doubt those non-users would be bothered by it. But for those of us who do use it, we sorely miss it when it's not there, especially since data plans are limited and expensive, and we'd rather have the option of storing up to 128 GB of material (mainly music, photos, and videos) to access locally without having to hit the network every time and risk overages.

Some phones have removable battery, some don't
Some have SD, some don't
Some have heavy skin, some don't
Some have front facing speakers, some, don't

Each phone is different. We have choices

Yes, choices are good, but the examples you mentioned above, IMO, should all be STANDARD, like headlights or windshield wipers on a car (notice there are MANY choices in cars - many more than in smartphones - yet certain things have to be standard on all cars to function properly). Likewise, ask yourself, why _wouldn't_ someone want expandable storage (i.e., micro SD slot)? Why _wouldn't_ someone want a removable battery? Why _wouldn't_ someone want front-facing speakers? (Or, to put it another way, what good is it _ever_ to have the speakers face away from you??) On the other hand, why would anyone _ever_ want a heavy skin, as you put it, rather than a lean, fast, pure OS that doesn't struggle along? I mean, this is just common sense. Choices should be how big a screen you want, how much processor & RAM and so forth. Or what color it is. Not on the things that are just vital and common sense.

It doesn't bother me since Google has gimped writing to the SD card in Android. I don't want to deal with constantly pulling the card out to add content to it from the PC. I wish there were a 64 GB option, but I can live with 32 GB.

Likewise, ask yourself, why _wouldn't_ someone want expandable storage (i.e., micro SD slot)?
Opportunity cost, engineering compromises and poor user experiences. It requires hardware engineering, software engineering, takes up time, money, space and introduces security and stability problems that are otherwise absent. Motorola is basing this decision based on research regarding how people use their devices... that's exactly what I wish everyone would do. In phones for markets that need removable storage... provide it! In those that don't, leave it absent! :D

Why _wouldn't_ someone want a removable battery?
Opportunity cost, engineering compromises and design optimization philosophy failure. A removable battery is going to be smaller than a non-removable one in an otherwise same device. It takes space, time, money and compromises in order to make it removable. That isn't to say it shouldn't ever be done... but it should be done when that decision makes sense with the rest of the device, not just because it can be.

Why _wouldn't_ someone want front-facing speakers?
For the sake of argument, perhaps smaller front bezels and/or less clutter.

On the other hand, why would anyone _ever_ want a heavy skin, as you put it, rather than a lean, fast, pure OS that doesn't struggle along?

While I think they're strange... some people enjoy the features that skins can bring. Now... I've been saying for a long time that OEM's could implement their features as APPS rather than rewriting the entire OS... but no one except Motorola & Google bought into that until this year and then HTC caught on a little bit.

Darth answered these questions so eloquently.
I'd also like to add comparing an SD card to headlights and windshield wipers is a bit of a stretch.

If I could have an SD card and removable battery without compromising cost, design, sturdiness...Sure I'll take it.

Currently I do not utilize an SD card or use a 2nd battery pack and do not see myself doing so in the future. I do not need these features. The headlights and windshield wiper on the other hand I do need.

Can you give a reason why you said yes? As many have noted, with the availability of the cloud, Drobpox, Google Drive et al, what precisely gets stored on the SD card nowadays?

I thought I would need an sd card when I bought my note, but never used it. 32gb is plenty when I stream everything.

No bc I keep my music and other media in the cloud through t he Google apps. Don't need tons of memory.

Is it true you can only get the 32gb version if you buy from moto direct, because i usually get it from amazon will i only be able to get the 16gb version ??

I'm not bothered with only 16GB, but I would prefer 32 GB so I don't have to worry about auto backup as often for my camera photos and videos. A limited data plan isn't a concern for me because I usually get a hotel with free Wi-Fi (or if the Wi-Fi is terrible, set up my own Wi-Fi using a portable router hooked up to the Ethernet cable).

But I understand the frustration for those who want SD slots. Store music and movies locally, etc. It's a fair enough complaint. Nothing to argue with there. People have different priorities and usages in a smartphone, and it's unfortunate that a group of consumers will miss out on the Moto X experience due to lack of expandable storage.
