Moto X 2014 Noticed phone goes from 4g to 1x when making a call

Re: Noticed phone goes from 4g to 1x when making a call

A little frustrated by this. It's a simple feature that should be included with the phone.
I'm sure we can all agree that having data while talking on the phone is a fairly useful feature.

See above posts on why. It's coming!

im not talking about VoLTE. I'm talking about like was mentioned before with the original moto x, i should be able to place a call and use data at the same time. i want the LTE radios to run at the same time as the CDMA radios during a phone call.

Re: Noticed phone goes from 4g to 1x when making a call

Isn't Verizon's VoLTE just Verizon to Verizon? Also the other person you're talking to has to have a phone that supports VoLTE and have it enabled?

So if you call someone that has a different carrier or doesn't have VoLTE you can't use voice + data at the same time on a Moto X/iPhone 6?

Hopefully the Droid Turbo won't be the same way.

If you enable volte you can use voice and data during any call placed while on Verizon's LTE network, doesn't matter who you're talking to.

My understanding is all future Verizon devices will act like the new moto x does.

Are you sure?

"For a customer to make or receive a VoLTE call, both parties must have VoLTE-enabled devices and be in an area where VoLTE is available."

Both parties have to be using volte enabled phones to use the service, however, if you have a volte enabled phone you will still be able to use voice and data at the same time , it will just not be an HD phone call

Oh ok thanks.

Re: Noticed phone goes from 4g to 1x when making a call

The 1st gen Moto X on Verizon remains connected to 4G when making a phone call. It's quite useful when you need to look something up while on a call (email/maps/Yelp).

This sucks so much. I had a Moto X DE and just go the new Moto X. How does my old one stay on 4G on a call and the new one doesn't. This shouldn't have anything to do with VoLTE.

Edit: Let me rephrase I'm sure it drops down to 1x for the actual call but on the Moto X 2013 the LTE radios would still be active to do data simultaneously. This makes this phone horrible. Once again this has nothing to do with VoLTE rollout on Verizon or Advanced Calling 1.0.

But it DOES...once volte is enabled, we WILL be able to use the phone and data at the same time while in a 4G coverage area. It kinda annoys me too that I can't use both at the same time . I'm not blaming it on Motorola... Its the first phone that has been built like this (@ Verizon's request (excluding iPhone 6) so just try to remain calm and hope Verizon will push out the freaking update sooner rather than later.

Wait what? Are you saying they specifically built this phone to not have a basic feature the older version had just for this VoLTE crap?

I called Verizon Customer Service / Tech Support for an "update." I was told that the Advanced Calling feature tests have not resulted in a high enough level of reliability. Advanced Calling 2.0 is supposed to be released according to the rep in September/October. She was "certain" that the X would be updated then. Who knows...

I called VZW Customer Service last week, and got a similar answer. The rep (who was really helpful), said that they were in the final stages of testing, but had encountered some bugs/reliability issues. The only timeline he could give me was "by late fall", and didn't mention Advanced Calling 2.0, but I wouldn't be surprised if that is indeed why we are waiting.

Regardless, it definitely sounds like this is a VZW issue, and not a delay caused by Motorola. It's quite annoying, especially coming from the 2013 Moto X that handled voice and data no problem (yes, I know, dual radios, blah blah). I understand where they are going with the new hardware, but from a consumer standpoint it doesn't make much sense to buy the newest version of a phone and step backwards in terms of functionality.

I think that answer is bull. Turbo and nexus 6 are both moto phones with advanced calling support. (and in two different ways too.. The turbo using verizon's implementation and the nexus 6 using 5.1's built in volte support).

I, unfortunately, have to use Verizon even though I hate them, and I view this whole thing as a bunch of BS. First of all, Advanced Calling is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Why can't they just call it VoLTE like all the other carriers do. And second of all why do I have to pay separately for voice/SMS and data if the voice is essentially just data? It should be just one data charge just like my ISP at home. That goes for all the carriers.

We are living in this world where the "phone" part of a smartphone is meaning less and less. It's becoming just a computer in our pocket that needs it's own internet connection, so why can't the carriers adjust their billing for this. I shouldn't have to pay $10/mo in addition to my data plan just so I can make a phone call when all of it is being handled by the SAME internet connection. It's absurd when you think about it. Let's just be clear. I'm all for having to pay for the phone number once much like one has to pay for an internet domain name, but all the carriers already charge for the creation of a new phone number anyway.

I hope this is true. I'm finding more and more whether it's from Verizon or Comcast that what they tell you over the phone is more times than not bull****.
