Moto X 2014 Post your end of day battery screen shots

You need to uncheck "always scanning for WiFi access points" under advanced WiFi setting. Otherwise phone is still using WiFi radio for location related things. I don't like this feature introduced with KitKat. It's like having two WiFi toggle settings and one is hidden.

Boom! Thanks buddy! I should have known that. :)

I just got mine today and made sure when I left work I had a full charge. I spent one hour on LTE watching almost non-stop YouTube videos, did some Facebook stuff, some gaming, some web browsing, the standard texting and a few app updates. Then I spent four hours on WiFi that included a ton of Netflix Chromecast streaming, a lot more Facebook, a bunch of Gmail on two accounts, some more gaming, a few pics and videos and a few more "system settings adjustments and tweaks."

So after about five hours from a full charge, I was at 50% on battery with 2-1/2 hours of screen time (mostly set to auto-brightness, which seems much more well optimized on the 2nd gen X). I would safely conclude that this would yield me nearly 5 hours of screen time if I extrapolate that same usage further.

That...does not suck.

I intend to do a full charge tonight to see how a full workday at the office does and then I'll see what it's idle drain is tomorrow night overnight.

Can we get more comments from people who also own the Moto X 2013 on the battery life of the X 2014? From what I've read it seems like the battery life of the two is similar which is not great.

I own both and for me battery life is pretty much identical. And for me I can easily go almost two days before needing to charge. I have had no complaints about battery life with either phone but I do have a strong signal at home and at work which likely makes a big difference. I have a turbo charger on order just because it sounds like a cool thing to have but really don't need one.

You're so right and I had completely forgotten that! Just went to my settings and unchecked it. Thanks!

Not bad for an average work day. Comparable to my OG Moto x.

Seriously if your looking at your phone for over 4 hours a day you need get a life and unshackle yourself...maybe some actual human contact?

Day one.

Light use for me. No gaming, I don't think I did any videos either. Seems pretty good. I'm going into this skeptical because the battery is 500 mAh smaller then my GS5 so time will tell.

I did disable some apps, Google+, HP Print Services, ISIS Wallet and Message+. Otherwise it's pretty standard.

An interesting topic - and WHY are we doing this? Because we don't want to believe all the reviews that tell us the battery life is not up to par with other similar tier 1 smartphones (I read / hear (video) that at the end of the day we'll all be looking for AC outlets to charge - depending of course on our daily usage). We need to prove all the reviews were wrong! So come on, I too, really wanted the New Moto X, and am having real second thoughts due to the battery, display, no SD card, and on and on. Perhaps we there are enough people that post great numbers here, we'll all think all the reviews are wrong. What we don't see, is the reviewers have access to all phones, and they can compare equally. We have 1-2-3 phones to compare to, and most likely they are different phones. Yes, I'm now looking at the S5, and the iPhone 6. I'd really like to stick with Android, but I need to purchase the phone that's best to me, considering all factors. I don't think the new moto X is the one for me. IF ONLY... a better battery, a better camera, an SD card for storage - this would be a great phone!

Scott I agree with you, As a original Moto X owner I wanted the 2014 Moto X to be the phone for me but, the screen size, battery and slight improvement in the camera has me looking elsewhere all the things for me it is missing would have made it great minus the SD(idc) but, larger drive space 32GB(good) or a 64GB(better). I really tried to convince myself that I could live with all the those things that would bother me because I love Motorola's software implementation and my present Moto X but, I want to upgrade. It now has me looking elsewhere at the Z3/Z3c and iPhone because of battery, camera and screen size. I just hope the Z3/Z3C comes out on Verizon.

Just try the device return it if you don't like it return it, camera and battery concerns are over blown by some reviewers as they can't find any thing wrong with the device. Plus iPhone 6 is not that small compared to moto x with its big bezels

How are you getting that on your G3, my wife's G3 can not no matter what I try.

With wifi I would get NEAR 5HRS sot in a day, without, an hour less. Thats with debloating, killing Carrier IQ, greenify most apps and without google now or location turne on.
Awful? No, that's the HTC Thunderbolt. This phone seems decidedly average, and for most people that's fine. Those hardcore users who can't go more than five minutes without being on their phones might need to look elsewhere, though.

Eh, perhaps it was the cell signal for some people, but less than 3hrs SOT in a average day isnt that great, compared to literally any flagship that came out this year. (S5, G3, M8, Nexus 5, OnePlus, Z3, Z2, Z-anything)

I'm really curious what people are doing on their phones that requires their screen to be on for 4-5 hours a day where they aren't at their own house (where they would hopefully have a charger around).

I work at a place where I can be there for 24-48hrs. Granted I can always plug it in, Id rather have the thing at my side as much as possible. Also, I like tracking my mountain biking or hiking with my phone in my camelbak, so theres a little bit of a "road warrior" aspect to my personal needs, as pocketnow reviewers would classify. It's only unimpressive as other phones are absolutely killing some of these screen shots. (ie: z3 compact getting over 10hrs SOT with a 300mah larger battery albiet screen size) Ref: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55780038&postcount=45
One thing that concerns me is this phone doesnt sleep well. From the above screenshots you can see its constantly awake while screen is off. I only need a 2 1/2 - 3hr SOT for full day use but since this doesnt sleep well i may have to disable some features like location services or google now to make it through the day. And i feel this may get worse after few months

The problem is that it's constantly waiting for "ok google" or whatever you set it up. It wont sleep as well as other phones as other phones arent looking for that hotword 24/7.

Does the phone arrive fully charged?

If not, what's the best way to condition the battery, if there's such a thing? Unbox, let charge, then use vs. unbox, use til it's drained, then charge?

I don't think there is a best way, it's a myth. Some people will say one way other will another.
