Moto X 2014 worth the upgrade over Moto X 2013?

Hey all,

I have the original Moto X, which I have absolutely loved having (though it seems like with the 4.4.4, or an earlier, update, my battery life isn't as good as it was before). With the CyberMonday deal for the new Moto X, just trying to figure out if it's worth the upgrade at this point. The larger screen seems like the biggest benefit of upgrading, and then the faster processor, but it also seems like there are only very minor upgrades with the camera and battery, which makes me wonder if I should just hold out for next year's new batch of phones to come out, including a Moto X 2015, which would hopefully get a bump in RAM, better camera specs and much bigger battery.

Any thoughts? Has anyone upgraded from the old to the new Moto X, or thought about it and decided not to?

The new X is way better then the OG X. I liked the form factor of the OG X better but the new X feels great in the hand.
The new X is much larger then the original and can't use it one handed as easy.

I am glad I made the move.

What can I say I loved my 2013 X but adore my 2014 one even more so I say it's worth the upgrade. I got used to the bigger screen super fast and it's got a better signal than the 2013 one does. I'm hoping Moto improves the camera and battery too with the 2015 model, but if you get decent battery life now with your 2013 X, you'll do just fine with a 2014 one.

My wife has the 2013 and I have the 2014.

As long as you have the cash and like the size, get the 2014. Everything about it is better. Battery life is only marginally better, but better. Everything else is better by a large margin. Especially the screen. Unless you need the huge battery of the turbo or the massive screen of a phablet, there is not a better phone in 2014. It really is a pleasure to use.

I thought moto x 2013 was a perfect one till I got my 2014

I'm on the fence also. I love my Moto X (2013) but the Cyber Monday deal is looking tempting....

Definitely worth the upgrade. Motorola has knocked it out of the park again. Loved the original, and love the larger screen even more on the 2014. Definitely worth it!

If you like the 2013 x but wanted a bigger screen the 2014 x hits the spot. It also feels more expensive. Unfortunately the camera is about the same (poor).

Damn you guys and your positive thoughts about getting the 2014 Moto X!!! It's really pushing me over the edge to get it on Monday (if I can get the deal) and just sell my Moto X 2013. I appreciate everyone's input!

I must warn you that parting with your 2013 X might be tough. I still have mine. Just couldn't let it go.

Yeah, I hear ya. Might just keep the 2013 as a backup, and sell my Nexus 4 that I bought just a few weeks ago to have as a backup. I'm currently abroad so I should be able to get a decent amount for either the 2013 X or the N4.

Just did it two weeks ago with the PE from motorola, and hooked up to AT&T. Love the 2014 for all the reasons stated above, I've seen slightly better battery life and still on 4.4.4. Having said that the ebony wood back is not wood, so It's getting sent back within the 14 day return period and I'm reordering a cognac leather one on Cyber monday and saving $140.00. My top favorite things about the 2014 vs 2013 are the screen, the new wave sensors(a minor complaint from the 2013 for me was having to always flip it to get the screen to wake), speed... it's very fast nothing weighs it down, and front speaker is a very noticeable improvement.

2013 has the wave gesture. Use it all the time. I am also upgrading though.

I didn't get a chance to own the 2013 but this phone is awesome. I would think the upgrade would be substantial considering the upgraded build, camera and processor.

Personally I don't think the new Moto X offers enough over the previous model to justify an upgrade. That's why I have decided to buy a Nexus 6.

True but the wave gesture works better on the 2014 - at least it does for me. With my 2013, I always had to wave just right to get it to work whereas with the 2014 it works wherever over the screen I wave my hand.
