Moto X (2nd Gen) Screen Defect/pseudo "water spot"?

My screen has a weird "spot" on it. I don't remember if this was here when I first got the phone a few weeks ago. I think not, but I'm not certain.

It looks like a simple water spot or small stain on the screen. If I wipe the screen with a good clean cloth, the spot goes away and you can't see it at all. But as soon as anything touches the spot, it comes back. It's as if the skin oils adhere to the spot extremely easily.

I have tried lightly "scratching" the spot with my fingernail. It does not feel like anything on top of the screen and it does not feel like there is any crater or scratch. Scratching the screen with my fingernail makes it go away, but only until it is touched again. I think fingernail scratching just removes the oil on top of the spot. I don't want to try anything more abrasive than a fingernail. I've also tried very mild soap/water/screen cleaners, but the outcome is always the same. The spot goes away when you clean it, but comes back and is very noticeable as soon as an oily finger touches it.

My best guess is that the screen coating did not cover that one little spot (or something damaged the screen coating in that spot). Consquently, it seems like that spot isn't oleophobic like the rest of the screen.

I have a support request out to Motorola, and I should hear back from them this afternoon. Just interested to see what anyone on here thinks. I'll update the thread with their response.

Photo below (and yes I used a friend's iPhone to take the photo. And to be honest, I'm jealous that the iPhone 5 took such a great picture...)

Is it possible to abrade or scrape the coating off? If it is, can Motorola assume that the owner did the damage?

Why don't you call Motorola. I got my phone on Friday and found a problem on Sunday. I called Motorola and they issued me a pin to design a new phone. Once my new replacement phone shows up I send back the old phone using the RMA and FedEx labels Motorola sent me. The whole process to 10 minutes.

I would call Moto for a replacement. A spot like that would drive me bonkers on a new phone.

The iPhone only took such a great photo because the device it was capturing is so sharp!

FINALLY heard back from Moto on this. They didn't call, they didn't write. I even prompted them on 10/23, but got nothing. So I called today and after waiting on hold for about 25 minutes, they said they would do an exchange. So they get points for doing the right thing and fixing it, and the initial customer service contact was very good, but they botched the follow up and took too long to make a call. Nevertheless, I'm satisfied with the response.
