My screen has a weird "spot" on it. I don't remember if this was here when I first got the phone a few weeks ago. I think not, but I'm not certain.
It looks like a simple water spot or small stain on the screen. If I wipe the screen with a good clean cloth, the spot goes away and you can't see it at all. But as soon as anything touches the spot, it comes back. It's as if the skin oils adhere to the spot extremely easily.
I have tried lightly "scratching" the spot with my fingernail. It does not feel like anything on top of the screen and it does not feel like there is any crater or scratch. Scratching the screen with my fingernail makes it go away, but only until it is touched again. I think fingernail scratching just removes the oil on top of the spot. I don't want to try anything more abrasive than a fingernail. I've also tried very mild soap/water/screen cleaners, but the outcome is always the same. The spot goes away when you clean it, but comes back and is very noticeable as soon as an oily finger touches it.
My best guess is that the screen coating did not cover that one little spot (or something damaged the screen coating in that spot). Consquently, it seems like that spot isn't oleophobic like the rest of the screen.
I have a support request out to Motorola, and I should hear back from them this afternoon. Just interested to see what anyone on here thinks. I'll update the thread with their response.
Photo below (and yes I used a friend's iPhone to take the photo. And to be honest, I'm jealous that the iPhone 5 took such a great picture...)
