Moto X 2nd Gen Tempered Glass?

I use tempered glass but ordered film to use until PThink makes one or I find another one I like. I just wanted to make sure they are made once they see the device so I do not have issues on the edges with it lifting up.

I don't see any con if you buy a quality one, which will be more scratch resistant and have oleophobic coating so it will feel smooth just like the original glass. A cheap ones can get cracks in the corner even if not fully shatter and pick up more finger prints, as well as not being smooth. Overall they do a very good job protecting the screen.

Right now I'm more interested in sapphire coated tempered glass which DimoGlass sells and have lifetime warranty, but they only offer for limited phone models and they can be expensive.

Forgive me for asking what may seem like a silly question. Is a screen protector really necessary with Gorilla Glass 3?

I'm still rocking a 2012 Droid Razr M (which I believe was GG2) with NO screen protector, only a minimal case. Yet after many, many drops and tons of rough contact from being in the same pocket as my keys over the past 2 years I still have yet to see a single scratch, let alone a crack. The display glass still looks brand new. Thoughts?

Probably more habit for me. The tempered glass protectors are very smooth (smoother than the Moto X 2's glass) and they can also absorb some impact and sacrifice themselves to protect the screen if dropped. They are also much harder like up to 3X more scratch resistant than film. I just feel better with a case and protector. I received my moto x yesterday and also dropped it twice (I caught the phone before it hit the carpet) before getting my case today and feeling much better. The moto x seems almost too thin and I cannot help but think they could have given it 2 more mm on the back side and given a bigger battery!

The screens are pretty tough to begin with, takes something harder than glass to scratch them. But a little piece of sand can wreak havoc on one. The PET films offer minimal protection and don't feel natural to me. The glass screen protectors are really nice and have a good feel. The advantage to the glass ones is, if you drop your phone and the screen hits, usually the screen protector will take the blow and shatter saving your screen. It's good insurance and a lot cheaper than replacing a screen.

Thanks for the info! I haven't received mine from Moto Maker yet but I have heard it's a bit too thin for grip purposes so I'm planning on getting a Casemate Hula bumper case. I probably won't get a screen protector since I have phone insurance through Verizon and have never had to make a claim for glass breakage (dating all the way back to the Samsung Fascinate lol). Granted that IF I do have to make a replacement claim under VZW insurance I will lose forever my beautiful Royal Blue Moto X as they will only replace it with a stock black (refurbished) 32GB model.

The Verizon one for the M8 was perfect but the one for the Moto didn't seem to want to lay all the way down on either side. I had VzW employees install them both

I think the rounded edges of the screen are causing issues with the fit of the glass screen protectors. I'm going to wait a while for the manufacturers to work out the kinks.

I took it off the next day and am rocking my X nude! I like it.

The best demostration with tempered glass is if you have it installed on your phone, then hit your phone with a hammer, the tempered glass would crack, but your original screen would be protected. It depends on what type of user you are, I tend to drop my phone and less careful about it so I have to take the precaution.

I have the exact same issue, and it's been 3 days now and it has not improved. I liked iloome screenmate flex and Spigen's Glas.tr. However I don't think either of them are producing them for Moto X.

So I ordered the Bodyguardz tempered pure screen protector from AT&T, they had both, the rectangular one that only covered the visible screen portion, and then the "full" bodied one. I opted for the full body. While I'm certainly happy with the feel beneath my fingers (smooth as buttered silk) I'm not particularly ecstatic with the edges of the screens protection.
To be clear, the edges of the glass DO adhese to the body of my phone, but you can plainly see in the pictures that it appears to show space under the edges. I'm fearful of putting it in my pocket because I don't want dirt and debris to build up under my screens edge. I could put a case on the phone but that defeats the purpose of this beautiful device. I may go with the bumper, but I like a slim phone the way it is, which is why I buy a slim phone and not a hardened phone. Still I thought I'd share my current experience with any users deciding whether to get this for their device.

I reached out to bodyguardz and they sent me a reply saying they would forward my concerns to the design team, we'll see if anything comes of it. I thought of returning mine, but I really like the feel of it on the phone, so I'll hold on to it until they fix it, or someone releases a better version.

I have scratched every screen and I barely drop my phones, and I have no faith in any gorilla glass. They may not get hard scratches but I bet you have surface scratches on the screen. If you put it under lite and look at it holding it flat infront of your eyes I am sure you will see surface scratches, and you really don't see them when screen is on. I have an s5 that I swaped with a friend because she needed unlocked phone for a few months. I had tempered glass on that phone and her s5 is all scratched up, although I don't see them when the screen is on, but there are bunch of them there.

For those waiting on tempered glass to become available, what are you using in the interim? I'm loving my ebony back/white front that came in yesterday and I'm being extra careful for fear of chipping the back or scratching the screen.

I'm using this for now: http://www.xtremeguard.com/Motorola-Moto-X-2014-Screen-Protectors-p/motx2014xgrds.htm
These are wet applied screen protector, so they require water for application, but it won't be a problem since the Moto X is water resistant.

Make sure you search "xtremeguard" on slickdeals.net to get the coupon code, it's not worth it at full price.

I almost bought the Bodyguardz one today but then read this thread and realized it was just as ****ty as the Verizon one. I hope the Zagg one is up to par when it comes out.
