MOTO-X...... Definitely not what I expected

I am inclined to disagree. My X runs circles around my old S3, which ran AOSP, slighly overclocked, and had a custom kernel.
The rate TouchWiz is going, the S5 will have an OS that is probably 12 GB in size.

It will actually be windows or tizen. Lol!

Anyone ditch the HTC One for the X? I dicked around with one recently and that's pretty sweet. Fast and the speakers are excellent. JC.

I have played extensively with HTC One... It is a very good smartphone - the speaker audio quality is the best out of all smartphones, the display quality is excellent (it has IPS display which is pretty accurate in terms of color reproduction - excellent for viewing photos/videos), the camera is much better than Moto X's (better exposure and white balance, much less "noise" in dark scenes, the OIS works pretty well when filming videos) and the phone feels much more "sturdy" due to aluminum frame. Unfortunately it's not comfortable to use - the phone is large but very thin (feels pretty "weird" in the hand) and its power button is on top (hard to reach when using phone with one hand). If you have huge hands - you might not feel the same way. There's also a HTC One Mini which is smaller and should fit better, although its hardware is worse than on HTC One (no OIS, small battery, less powerful CPU).

Anyway, there is no perfect smartphone - all of them have their own advantages and drawbacks so you should always try them out by yourself and then decide which of them fits your personal requirements better.

I guess the poor little guy never stood a chance since I had the nexus 5 first. Been using it for a week before I received the X. I was ready to ship the nexus back if I like the X, but It didn't happened. I wanted to like it though. The X is a good phone at the on-contract price ($50), but definitely not worth 372 off contract.

I would disagree. I paid 672 for mine and I'm buying another one with different colors because its even more worth it now at 370.. Matter of opinion.

Let me break this down..

I knew the camera sucked and that it is a small device, but I didn't expect the screen to be sub-par also. The scene is bright, but video playback sucks. Definitely not worth it! especially since u can get a Nexus 5 for the same price.
- I have had no issue with the screen.. Are you holding it up next to a 1080p HTC One if so then yea.. But i've had no complaints, and actually had someone ask "That's really a 720p phone!?"

Being able to customize it isn't what it's cracked up to be if u really take the whole process into consideration. U can only chose 2 colors for the front bezel, a few colors for the accents and having a signature or writing on the back of the phone will decrease the resale value. And lets face it, half of us will be selling this thing when the S5 comes out.
Troll much? Customization is a HUGE plus to this phone... and not everyone want's to ditch their phones every 2 months. This phone is meant to last! and a S5? I mean come on... A SAMSUNG?,.. with a huge screen? That barely fits in your pocket -.- good job.

The design is excellent, but way to small for my hands. Also, it's a heavy phone, way heavier than the Nexus 5.
The phone's not "Heavy".. It's got heft, and feels sturdy and durable.. The N5 is large, bulky and feels like I can break it in half.. Yea totally want a phone that I think i can break in half using my bare hands -.-

The always listening feature on the phone is good, but since we live in the real world and lock our phones, it won't work the way u want it to.
I actually do not lock my phone.. why? Because the phone is in my pocket, hands or my desk.. I have it on me CONSTANTLY and rarely let anyone touch the damn thing.

The battery life is sick, but at what cost?
Honestly.. Dont know where you're getting at this....

I figured that the pros will out-weigh the cons, but I was totally wrong.
uh okay. return it and have fun with a bulky. Plasticy. Laggy device that Samsung made.. or the flimsy thing that LG had won the Nexus bid with. I'll enjoy my REAL Google phone, made by actual googlers who put more features than stock android..

By sick, he meant good :p
Anyway, the Moto X is a great phone, but it's not more "Google" than the Nexus. That's just not possible
Faster updates, GEL and other Kit Kat features that are exclusive to the Nexus, more Dev support, no bloatware, and the easiest phone to root/flash

U guys out there still waiting for ur device to be shipped... do yourself a favor and cancel! get the Nexus 5 instead.

What I like to know is why the video playback is suck on this phone in your opinion as you said
And why are you telling people to stay away from the X I think this thread should be deleted!

if the S5 is aluminum it will blow every phone out of the water? why? it will be touchwiz wrapped in aluminum, the very same touchwiz that looks a lot like Gingerbread, thats not moving forward at all, Touchwiz is getting like IOS, long in the tooth, its a bloated skin that slows performance on the device, Samsung need to pull themselves back, the OS takes 8gb right now with a bunch of novelty software, you want a top aluminum phone on android you should go buy the HTC One

Aluminum and radios...to me that is a recipe to = bad reception. I'm enjoying my Moto X DE so far!

My aluminum One gets great reception

Folks

Let's not turn this thread into trash. I could of closed it up on day one but I saw the OP was being fair and listening to replies and not being a jerk about it. We vent sometimes and maybe regret it but there is no need to start tossing around troll comments and insults.

Let's be bigger than this and make it a reasonable discussion.

Hahaha. I keep thinking of my Nexus 5 in food terms because it's so tasty. I keep wanting to bite into it but I alternate between imagining it tastes like a KitKat, ice cream bar with crisp coating, or a delectable piece of crispy fried fish. Every time I think about biting into my phone I start getting hungry. Or maybe it's the other way around...

I actually agree with the op. Granted my hands on has been limited to in store use but I found the 5 to be more to my liking

Seems like the Moto X has been stirring up a lot of trouble recently...smh

moto x is a kind of phone that grows on you, using in store of couple of days doesnt exactly tell you how functional/usefull it will be day to day life, The sort of things it does makes me lead my day to day life more efficiently ..things like active display, touch less control, trusted bluetooth, moto connect, assist ..i use all of them and make a difference in how a smartphone complements your life. I dont care if the screen on another device is better by 10% it doesnt matter as much as the whole package ..btw i used nexus briefly its great device but felt the screen looked washed out and had bad viewing angles, compared to vivid colors on moto x ..it could probably be my perception or my eyes are trained to like amoled display's ...just shows the difference of perception ..but i believe that moto x is kind of device that grows on you and cannot be judged like other devices by using it store for few hours or for couple of days ..
