Samsung definitely retiring Samsung Messages

Yeah it was left in their watches but I think that has almost disappeared not sure don't use them .
Samsung used Tizen throught the Watch 3 & then the Watch 4 came with Google's Wear OS.
Tizen still in their TVs
Yeah, I have one of their Smart TV's with Tizen installed, but I really don't use the smart features. Not sure how well they work. I just needed a 32" screen with Bluetooth built-in. I block the TV's access to the internet. Poor little TV can't phone home...
😔

I think we have one TV that's a Samsung in the house
Usually I'm a Sony TV guy who never ever had issues with them

I always liked Sonys. I never had any problems with them either.

I ended up with this Samsung because of the built in Bluetooth. It seemed like that feature was mostly on the larger models, A 32" was all that would fit in the room where it was needed & Samsung had one. The volume output is weak, but since I use a Bluetooth speaker, it works.

Sorry, I got off the message app subject. I'll behave now... 😉

Okay you behave now and allow me to continue being a trouble maker haaaaa!! Since moving into our home we got three Samsung Frame TVs ranging from 40" to I think 70", one huge 80" Samsung for the basement and the kids each for a Samsung monitor.

This Frame is in our living room.

Oh since this is a messaging thread ummmm I've always used Textra and don't see any need for the other ones unless someone can convince me that something's better out there? Sorry!

Bottom line if Samsung wanted to flex its muscle it could but they don't , why

For example why Samsung devices all this time haven't gone to seamless updates like the pixels?

Oh and Samsung did try to go away from Google with Tizen but what happened there we all know lol
Samsung isn't flexing because they are like all other companies including Apple, Google and Microsoft, if the cash is flowing, no reason not to remain content and play it safe.

I'm personally against Seamless. It complicates the partition structure and allows for equal parts fallback security as it does risk. Lower end devices definitely would benefit but flagships take what, 2 minutes to install and reboot? I don't Like the idea of update files sitting on a partition i cant access if something goes wrong. Pixels at least have unlockable bootloaders so youre rarely completely hosed.

Samsung you have ODIN but that's far from beginner friendly AND seamless would presumably kill ODIN.

Yes... Tizen, long ago, apparently not long enough to be forgotten by some 😝. Tizen on TVs was a nightmare. However, it is to be said that outside of no apps, Tizen was IMO better than WearOS or whatever the hell Google has renamed it to for the 5th time. My GearS3 watch battery lasted, the experience was smooth (again just not many apps) though I rarely use apps with my "Google-fied) Samsung watches which have microstutter and comparatively bad battery life.
So Tizen was what Stadia (among countless others) to Google. A half-assed, low effort attempt to push something new without the commitment or drive to make it appealing.

I agree I'm against seamless also, Odin is probably the easiest method of flashing a stock firmware there is and pretty straight forward also you can't grab another region and flash it it won't allow you meaning a US version to international, so it's not knowledgeable proof if u know what I mean lol

Tizen OS and Galaxy store were put in place to go against Google OS and play store which failed back in the day, I was there from the beginning of it, it wasn't just Samsung others tried this on Google also .

I know nothing about watches as I don't use them but heard Tizen was good on them like you mentioned.

Yes Google has a habit of creating something then a couple years later scraping it

Just all such a waste. Tech as a whole is destined for destruction. Between everything I'm this thread, game consoles hitting $700. Not owning your games (except old consoles and GOG for PC), monopolies, lack of repairability, and so on...

We are destined for a for a tech recession.

I'm afraid you might be right

That's not unusual because LG is using webOS (remember that?) in their TVs.
every time I power on my LG TV I'm reminded, lol. the bride used to work for HP. she got their OG tablet (powered by webOS) that was launched alongside a Russell Brand commercial, and almost immediately canceled. head-spinning.
