Moto X: Google Now hot word detection broken

Since updating to kitkat my Google now hot word is broken. The mic is hollow to indicate this and it's driving me nuts. Things I've already done:

Uninstall updates to app, reinstall updates and set up again

Delete and re-download language pack (us English)

Googling led me to accessibility but I see nothing of interest here

Toggle relevant settings in Google now

Change launchers

Well, I'm thoroughly frustrated :/

Also to clarify, this is not the touchless control, which still works fine, but the Google now hot word setting

clear data cache on google search app and then reboot. if it still wont work i am out of option

Still no dice. I'm just smh and going to live with it I guess.

Broke mine as well. Like you, i can initiate a search with touchless control, but once there, I can no longer do voice searches in google search. I have to go all the back to "Ok Google Now."

Cleared cache and data then rebooted. Didn't fix.

looks like moto left that out ..to not interfere with touchless controls?

Broke mine as well. Like you, i can initiate a search with touchless control, but once there, I can no longer do voice searches in google search. I have to go all the back to "Ok Google Now."

Cleared cache and data then rebooted. Didn't fix.

Could be. If it was on purpose, that is annoying. I liked the "conversational" contextual searches.

Conversational search does not work with touchless controls? I can say who Obama and then ask who is he married to? And ask bunch of other questions without mentioning his name again ..is there more to it than that with google now hotword?

After playing with it some more, the issue is that voice search in Google Now no longer works. I can't open Google Now and say "Google" to initiate a search like I could before. Now it appears that I have to initiate all voice interaction with Touchless Controls ("Ok Google Now"). I can tap on the mic icon to initiate listening in Google Now, but the "Hotword Detection" setting in Google Now doesn't work.

Not sure if that was by design or is in fact a bug.

Now I just have to wait for the AT&T OTA. This has been bugging me for months.
