If I get a Moto X through Verizon, how are the update compared to other carriers? What version is everyone on now? And who has the final say for the updates (guessing Verizon does)?

Android 4.4 is the current version. It was the first Moto X to get KitKat. 4.4.2 is rolling out but there have been no announcements for Verizon yet.
