Moto X on Verizon will not boot past Motorola logo

I have the Moto X ( XT1060 ) on VZW. It was not unlocked or rooted. I had done the stock OTA to 5.1 a few weeks back and it all seems fine. Then over the weekend, I was charging it and the phone rebooted and would not boot past the Motorola logo. I got into fastboot and tried to both wipe the cache partition and then do a factory reset. Both hung. I left them for hours hoping that they would complete.
If I try, the phone just stays with the two lines that the bottom of the screen that either says wiping/formatting cache or wiping formatting data. I have RSD lite installed on my Windows 8 PC. It does recognize my phone. I am looking for the stock VZW 5.1 firmware to flash to the phone. Would that help? Will that even work? I have read so much but am not even sure since my phone was never rooted. Is there any other suggestions?
Thank you
