I'm in the market for a new smartphone (or will be soon) and I'm stuck between the Moto X 2014 and the iPhone 6. I've had many phones before I stayed on last years Moto X including the Nexus 4, HTC Windows Phone 8x, and the Blackberry Z10. Last years Moto X was and still is a pretty good, great even, smartphone. It's battery and camera are its only down points as I've had it for a year and its still faster than a friend's LG G3. The new Moto X has caught my eye becuase of its metal and how swaggy it looks (I just wrote that?) plus my last Moto was amazing. Then there's the iPhone, it's new biggerish screen, touch ID, and better camera than any android likely will have for a couple years make me want it. If the new Moto had the camera of the iPhone I would buy it hands down. Yet it doesn't and all the great things about IPhones are starting to appeal to me so the choice is hard. Can you give some advice?

If you want a better camera get the iPhone. If you want a better smartphone get the Moto.

Re: Moto X or IPhone 6?

From the samples I've seen so far, if you want a good (not the best) camera experience get the iPhone 6. I think if you want amazing details for video recording, other phones with 4K video recording and OIS like LG G3 and S5 is still going to be way better than iPhone camera. I'm not impressed with video recording of iPhone 6, it is very above average, just that other Android phones can do better. Don't forget you won't get OIS unless you get the 6 Plus.

It's a completely two different ecosystem, if you are already tied in with Apple services like iCloud and iTunes, you may want to stay with Apple. If you prefer Google services more than get the Moto X, just know that it will not give you 24hours battery life, unless you use it lightly.

As for the Moto X 2014 camera, I'm not impressed at all. It's marginally better than last year, but it have too much noises for any situation. I haven't used it long enough to come to a conclusion though.

There is the Droid Turbo and the 5.9" rumor Moto S phone (most likely a Nexus 6 now) (which I predict will not be a Nexus), and the Nexus 6, so there are still other phones to consider.

The iPhone got a bigger screen at 4.7" but the Moto X is basically the same size overall at 5.2". Touch ID is great, Apple got this right, sometimes not perfect but close. Camera on the iPhone is great but some of the shots posted on here from the Moto X really impress me.

You're really happy with your current X and the new ones camera and battery are even better. Plus Android L is close. Moto X seems to be just as smooth as the 6 from my hands on time but it's limited with both.

My gripe about the iPhone is lack of new features and enough so to drive me away from it. Moto X won for me and I'm anxious to see how my wife likes it compared to her 6.

I feel like almost every smartphone is on the same ground now in terms of operation system. It would be hard to go without touch less display but everything else I don't really use.

Re: Moto X or IPhone 6?

Apples vs oranges

ios vs android

If you're going to use camera app 100% of your day, get iPhone

If going to take pics here and there and the pics aren't going to go into a museum, get the x

Not trying to sound mean, though you came from many androids, ios is a different animal. If camera is a must, camera is a must, got to do what you must

Just my 2 cents

Re: Moto X or IPhone 6?

This is really the million dollar question and the answer is not as straightforward as many here put it. I have used both phones for several days now and plan to write a detailed comparison review soon. Sneak preview: I currently intend to keep both...

Re: Moto X or IPhone 6?

As much as I hate to say it and I do but the iPhone 6 is better is too many ways. Loved the first moto x but the camera was a joke. The camera on the new one is also terrible combined with s small battery. I have an iPhone 6 and the camera is nothing short of amazing and so is the battery. Wanna love the moto, I'm a huge moto fan but they just keep shooting themselves in the foot. Camera and battery is too much to give up. I can't justify buying the new moto x.

Bollocks. The camera on this one is much improved over last year and is comparable with other flagships, and like the iPhone 6 it does not have OIS. If you want a better camera, you don't want either phone. 6+ has OIS. As for the battery, that's hotly contested but real world use will be different from a test in a lab. I get decent usage out of my X, and if I could upgrade to the new X, it would be better because it has a bigger battery and more efficient processes. The phone is optimized for a more sophisticated use - no, you don't have to fire up your screen to check notifications or email unless you want to. And now the new X will show up to 3 at a time to dismiss. A lab test is useful but does not replicate the real world choices we make in how to use the phone.

You can, of course, opt to get a flagship with a bigger battery. But is it worth $100+ to you? Not to me.

Re: Moto X or IPhone 6?

Gizmodo did a nice comparison of the cameras of all flagships this last week....though they left out the G3.

Wow, this makes sense. So your basically saying do you want a camera or a phone?

Re: Moto X or IPhone 6?

This is really more of a "do you want IOS or Android" question. While both do many of the same things, they are very different. If you are not vested in the Apple ecosystem, I see no reason to get an Iphone. If you are vested in Apple's ecosystem, then you have a hard choice as to how much it is worth it to you to change.

If you want good looking pictures, get an actual camera. While I understand the want to have a great camera on your cell phone, the best cell phone camera in existence still needs "for a cell phone" attached to the picture quality. You cannot and will not for the foreseeable future be able to get good quality pics out of a little phone shooter.

Re: Moto X or IPhone 6?

The 6+ is the go-to phone for camera (and battery) performance and is getting a ton of praise in both regards. The regular iPhone 6's camera isn't as good. However unless they release a new batch without the warping aluminum body I wouldn't personally buy an iPhone. I pocket my phones frequently

Well considering the size of the 6+, that could potentially be a big issue unless you have big pants. This thing is the biggest phone in the market with that screen size.

Currently yeah. Past gens the brick awards went to the Z ultra and the 1520

It's time to get off the "bending" train. Consumer Reports has already debunked that myth.
