MOTO X PURE & NOVA and other newbie questions

Re: MOTO X PURE & NOVA and other newbie questions

Are you using a custom icon for your folders? You could try a couple of things.

- Create a new folder and see if the problem persists. Also, drag one of the shortcuts outside and then check the long press for the folder again.

- Clear the user cache in settings - storage & USB - internal storage - cached data and then reboot.

- Wipe the cache partition on recovery.

Do you mean custom icons for the apps? Yes, I use various icon packs from Google Play. Apart from that nothing else custom made.
Thanks for the advice, but to be honest I don't find the problem so important. I wouldn't have found out if checksergio didn't open this topic.
As I said you can still edit the folder name or delete it. I don't remember what else the "edit" option did.
Just to be sure, checksergio says that he gets the menu (so do I), but you can't choose anything from it. I downgraded Nova but the same. I also imported a previous backup of my settings or did a reset of my settings but still the same.

I'm considering this phone. Right now I have an Oppo Find 7 which I really like. Since Color OS allowed. I replaced all Google apps with other - for instance Aquamail and disabled Gmail. I like Dolphin Browser and StartPage rather than Google search. I don't need maps, music or social apps. I also use Nova Launcher. I bought the premium version to all these.

Can the phone be customized enough to to this? I see Nova works - how about Dolphin and Startpage and Aquamail?

Can you turn off the voice apps and other conveniences? I really don't like AI talking at me. I prefer to read.

I do want a phone that will open a birding book before the bird flies away. It has to have a decent night display for astronomy apps. I'm with TMO and they are messing with bands. The Oppo doesn't have the newer LTE bands on any phone.

Of course you can. Its an Android phone so you can customize it just like any other Android phone, and then some. And yes, you can turn off ALL Motorola's speech- and listen features if you wish. I only have chop to Flashlight and double twist to open camera turned on, and everything else turned off. Running Nova Prime, and battery life is actually pretty solid! And thats coming from a guy who's previous phone was an LG G2 (crazy good batt)
Just keep the brightness around 10-20% (perfectly visible).
I recommend this phone. Have fun.

10-20% brightness??? you must have some very very good eyesight!

Thanks, I just ordered one.

The specs are very similar to my Oppo Find 7, minus the hitch about unified storage in the Oppo design. The Oppo is around 6" tall, so the screen and reach should not be a problem.

I'd keep the Oppo, but I have no idea what TMO is doing with bands. Supposed to be 2G to Band 12, but what happens to GPRS, 3G, and apparently some native 2G will be retained and who knows about the rest.

I keep the Oppo screen to around 30%. The screen is useless in the sun. I can get a full day off the 3000MAH battery. I usually have GPS turned on for weather and astronomy. Everything else is off.

Well that is my problem right there- if I click a folder I briefly view the EDIT/Remove options, then when I release my finger to touch either option, the option disappears in a flash! This behavior does not happen on an App by itself- the fact that it is not happening to you leads me to think that its not by design.

I had this problem and think I solved it. In Nova settings, I allow icons to snap in between vrid spaces, and allow widgets and icons to overlap. Every time I long pressed a folder, I'd see the "edit/remove" options, but upon release, the folder would jump up a grid spot.

I changed my settings, put my icons squarely in grid sections, long pressed until I saw the options, and let go somewhat slowly, meaning after the edit/remove options were visible. Worked for me and I'm still loving Nova Prime on my one-week old Pure X.

I ordered mine the day it was first available, within minutes.
I can't get the flashlight chop to work to save my life
