Moto X (second generation): Pure Edition

Yes if you specifically buy the Sprint version. And then later on the line hope that someone on XDA will figure out a way to sim unlock it to make it work on GSM network (which they did for the original Moto X Sprint.)

I was asking whether the Pure Edition would work on Sprint and the answer to that is, unfortunately, no.

Moto x Pure Edition

Does the moto x pure edition still have Motorola's add ons like moto display moto voice etc?

Yes. It has everything except carrier logos and added apps from the carriers called bloatware.

This was the deciding factor for me replacing my LG G3 w/ a new Moto X. There's lots to love about the G3, but the Moto X's features plus knowing no apps forced on me AND that I'll be on a fast-track for future OS updates led to my order.

If the G3 had an unlocked carrier free version I might have jumped on the G3 bandwagon. But instead Moto got my business this year.

An unlocked, carrier-free version doesn't guarantee you quicker Android OS updates.

Where did I say anything about updates?

LG will not directly sell their devices. So I sat and said "screw it". Had nothing to do with OS updates...BUT carrier free means one less middle man to worry about slowing down said updates.....But again I said nothing about OS updates. Anyways....Moving on....

You didn't but you quoted a post that did.

Fair enough but a carrier free model = updates sooner in the amount of months in most cases it seems. Verizon, att, Tmo and Sprint are all guilty. Carrier free phones just make better sense anyways IMO. By default. So in a way I'd say your wrong but at the same time you could be correct.

You're right no guarantees, but past behavior with the original Moto X leads me to hope the new one will enjoy the same advantage. With the carrier out of the picture that can't help but speed it up.

Moto told one of the blogs that the pure edition would get all updates first.

I saw that too. We'll see what happens though. It's a bit different than the first gen Moto X, where sometimes the carrier versions got Android OS updates before their unlocked, non-carrier version.

Yet Motorola was able to work with Verizon on getting the Android 4.4 KitKat out to the first gen Verizon Moto X before the unlocked, non-carrier model.

It starts with the OEM. There's nothing for a carrier to slow down if the manufacturer isn't even working on the update yet.

Anyone know why you can't order the pure edition in 32 GB? The website keeps telling me its not available on Verizon with the front color selected. Doesn't matter what color I select and I never specified a carrier.

Might just be a system glitch or inventory issue. I was able to order a 32GB Pure Edition black leather/black front a few days ago.
