MOTO X - Why can't I make phone calls without using speakerphone?

I have a Moto X.

I can no longer make normal phone calls; I have to put it on speaker mode to hear people or for them to hear me.

The speakers DO function, however - I can listen to music/google maps/etc, and I can also use voice-to-text. The only application I have found that they don't work for is in calls.

I have looked at settings, and the hearing aid compatibility option is unchecked (I had seen this as a fix on other forums, but it doesn't apply to my issue apparently).

Any other settings that might need to be looked at?
