Moto Z Force Heat

Not sure why, but my Moto Z Play (personal phone) runs much cooler than my Moto Z Force (work phone) despite identical usage patterns. Any ideas why?

Well the phones are pretty different. The Z play has a snapdragon 625 that powers a 1080p display while the force has an 820 that pushes a quad HD display. A more powerful processor pushing a higher res display is bound to generate some more heat.

My first device was a Droid 4G Razr about 4-5 years ago. Didn't get any kind of cell phone until I was 62. Anyway, it would get hot. To the point where I called VZW. No worries they said, and it lasted the 2 years and beyond. (sold it on ebay after my upgrade) I upgraded to the RazrMaxxHD and that would get warm but I never worried about it. So far 4 days in with the Moto Z Force I haven't noticed any untoward heat. I am retired and on a PC more often than not, don't game or watch videos on the device, so that may have something to do with it. Battery lasts a long time with my level of use.

I'm now noticing all the talk of how hot the Force gets after steady usage

Tonight I realized what all the talk was about. Man my phone was smoking hot. So much that I changed shell backs to not feel like I was burning my hand lol

What were you doing on the phone that made it heat up?

Mines not that bad it just gets warm quick. It never stays at a steady temp

Remember, a Lithium Ion battery has to be pretty warm in order to be fast charged. That would explain what you're feeling while it's charging.

Why one Z Force would get warmer than another during non-charging use? It's probably the difference in what you're doing with it.

If you think your Z Force is getting way, way too warm during playback only, I'd try a factory reset. That seems to solve about 90% of all the weird issues with any smartphone.

I don't play games, but the one time it got warm was when I was taking a lot of photos outside and it was a warm day. Even during charging it doesn't get as nearly as hot as my MXPE does.

Mine gets warm when charging or with heavy use. I wouldn't say it's excessive though. Just warm, not really hot.

I have been on mine while Turbo charging for about 45 minutes. Playing games, surfing........ So far it's showing 92°F. I don't think that's too bad. I also have it in Otterbox Defender so I'm sure that traps a lot of heat.
