I think I'm more excited about updating to Pie than buying the 5G Moto mod. I'll need to see big 5G benefits before spending big

Well....that's a bummer. Motorola is still stating on it's website that the Z3 will be getting Pie pending carrier release.

Moto Z3 will get Pie. They make changes to the Moto Mod firmware in the OS releases so support for Moto Mod 5G will come with Pie and possibly be available for any other Moto Z devices with Pie. If they will be releasing more mods, support for them will probably be included in the Pie update as well. It clearly has to come soon since it will be the first 5G device for Verizon and they want to make sure that comes out before Samsung and others. I would guess sometime in February.
