Question Motorola power button problem

I am currently using a Motorola Edge 20 Lite. Last week, my power button mysteriously stopped working. I never turned my phone off, and all I did was turn on a setting that allowed me to double tap to put it to sleep and wake it up. Other than that, everything went perfectly, with no problems at all. Today, faithfully, I forgot to plug it in, and so it ran out of battery.

First, I tried charging it. It showed me a charging symbol and then flashed the high percentage it was at, but it would not boot up. I then attempted to press and hold the up and down buttons simultaneously for around 20 seconds, which triggered a sort of "Fastboot Mode" and provided me with the following choices:
bootloader logs
start
restart bootloader
recovery mode
power off
barcodes

I used the up and down keys to scroll through the options, but I could not select one because I needed to press the power button to do so. I tried waiting for a few minutes, hoping that it would auto-select if I left it idle, but the flashboot mode simply vanished, leaving me with the turned-off phone that only flashed that it was charging when I connected it to the cable.

Is there anything I can do in this scenario?

Welcome to Android Central! In case some residue got stuck around or under the button that's preventing it from pressing correctly, try swabbing generously on and around the button with 99% rubbing alcohol.

Once the phone is in recovery or fast boot whatever you set-up to change the power button function reverts back to default until you get into the phone again, so you can highlight the menus by scrolling but the power button doesn't advance the selection? You have a Case on ? Maybe it's interfering

I don’t have a case on the phone, and the power button still isn’t working in fastboot mode. The power button doesn't work generally, that's the problem. I can scroll through the options with the volume buttons, but I can’t select anything because I need the power button to do that, and the power button doesn't work.

Thanks for verifying, Does the power button feel tactile?

I'll buy some rubbing alcohol and try. But, until then, is there anything I can do to turn on my phone without using the power button, given what I stated in the original post?

If the phone doesn't automatically power on when connected to a power outlet, then I don't think there's any other way to turn it on.

It does ''turn on'' in the sense that it shows me that its charging and flashes me the power percentage, but that disappears soon after I connect it to an outlet. I could try going to a repair shop and getting them to reboot it, maybe through ADB. Would that be a good idea?

I think the repair shop would be more useful to figure out if something is wrong with the Power button.

Have you tried pressing and holding the Power button alone for a good 30 seconds? Time it -- 30 seconds is a lot longer than it seems.
