Motorola trying to ban apple products

What are they supposed to do? You think apple is going to stop with Samsung? Hell, they pretty much dealt a crippling blow to HTC earlier this year. It's kill or by killed with Apple right now. If moto doesn't sue now then apple will come back and sue them later. Imo moto actually had patents no matter how ridiculous they are, if apple wants to sue people for bounce back effects and rounded corners then turn about is fair play.

Its less clear with Motorola because moto has actually changed their products quite a bit lately. We know apple has offered a settlement to moto, and moto also has a poor record getting courts to rule for them when it comes to patents.

We'll see settlements with apple in short order.

I really hope Moto succeeds as a way to get justice for Sammy. However, given the blatant bias of the courts and juries, I don't see it happening.

Justice for Samsung? lol.

Of course, it'll all come down to how strong of a case Motorola can make.

Seems like the same lawyers that represented Samsung are representing Motorola here. Not sure if that's a good sign or not. :/

I think they should challenge the blatantly wrong and abusable patent laws istead of each individual patent.

This. Really after this big blow to Samsung, if Samsung can't take out apple how is Motorola supposed to do it? Besides I'm sick of patent disputes, no matter who wins we all loose. Instead we need to fight to get these laws changed and Google needs to lead the way.

Motorola is not in a position to challenge the patent system given that they are under antitrust investigation for abusing standards essential patents.

Well I said it in the other thread but the reality is these cases mean nothing for us. Worst case scenario for Samsung is they pay the fine and some old dated out of production galaxy s phones get banned.

The more I think about it with this case this is Motorola being Motorola. Google didn't initiate it, they are just letting moto run their own show

Motorola, and Motorola Mobility are two different companies.

It's pretty much Motorola Solutions and Motorola Mobility, Mobility now being owned by Google.

As I understand it, Motorola Mobility is being closely looked at for abusing SEPs.

Google controls Motorola's litigation, and has since the buyout was announced.

Everyone knows that. Considering that we're talking about mobile phones, theres only one Motorola it could be.

I know that but I still don't believe Google is behind this decision. Google isn't going to take apple to court. Google's style is more along the lines of getting patents changed.

Google HAS to be behind the decision. They are the only ones that could be. That's what 'controlling Motorola's litigation' means.

How do you figure? If you come up with an idea and it's not protected with a patent, anyone can use it. Would you spend tons of money and time to come up with original ideas if you can't profit from them? I wouldn't.

The only way to foster innovation is to protect it. If you can't protect it no one will have any incentive to innovate because it will gain them very little.

I didn't say get rid of them but big multi billion dollar tech companies don't need them. The whole tech industry is based on stealing ideas and improving them, and patent disputes like this hinder progress.

If you truly believe that, I feel sorry for your simple minded thoughts.

By your logic with no patents, there would be 50 phone makers all making the same device, I find this very hard to believe.

Sales drive innovation, not patents.....people are forced to think up new ideas in order to create new sales. With or without patents/dress trade company's will always use another ideas and improve them.

Hmmph they should look at apple for abusing patents and attempting to form a monopoly.

If only the good old trust buster was still around.
