Motorola Xoom vs Asus Eee Pad Transformer vs Galaxy Tab 10.1 vs Acer Iconia A501

Yes, I just added the Acer.

At $449, the Acer matches and even goes beyond the $599 Xoom in every spec but one. Add a $24 16GB microSD and the Acer is on top in every spec.

I do not know how Motorola can do anything but reduce the Xoom price to match the Acer Iconia A500. How else can the Xoom survive being side-by-side with the Acer at Best Buy?

Thanks for doing that. :)

It will probably be $100 cheaper, but if the Transformer launches at $400, the 16gb Xoom will still be $100 MORE than the Asus. Moto will be dead in the water.

Of course, it's all wait and see right now though.

SD Slot does work on Asus

To quote from the Asus manual:

To access the external storage device directly
1.Tap the USB or SD card icon on the bottom right corner.
2.Tap the folder.
3.The content of the external storage device (Removable/XXX/) is
displayed.

So if it's a hack then it's a pretty elegant one! I suspect it is actually now in Honeycomb 3.0.1 proper.

One thing about the Iconia - it has a non IPS screen. The viewing angle is noticeably poorer than the Asus.

Weirdest thing, I had a midterm today ane as I went to turn my scantron in I noticed the ta had a tablet sitting on a table and it looked like it was running honeycomb, but it had dedicated search menu back keys on the top right of it. Anyone know what tablet it is? I didn't think any other honeycomb tabs were out yet in the US, and thought they did away with dedicated keys.

It should be very soon...I have a friend who works at Motorola Mobility. It was an issue with Honeycomb...it took them a bit to figure out how to incorporate the SD card with the OS so everything runs smoothly even if you run an app from SD

The Asus would NOT have a working SD card if released today with honeycomb since its an OS issue...
The Asus Transformer is already shipping in the UK. They have just sold out for the thrid time. The microSD and the SD card work in Honeycomb per our very own Phil Nickinson in his front page review today: ASUS EeePad Transformer review.
The right-and bezel has the 3.5mm headphone/microphone jack, microphone, mini HDMI port for high-definition output, and a microSD card slot. And unlike the Motorola Xoom's, it actually works. Pop in a microSD card, and it appears as "External storage," or /removable in the file structure. No hacks -- it just works.
Plus there is an SD card in the keyboard:
The keyboard dock has four ports -- one for the 50-pin connector for charging, a pair of USB 2.0 ports, and a full-size SD card slot. Yes, the SD slot works. Pop in a card, and it's recognized as external storage. Next to the charging port is an LED indicator light.
Can you point us to the link that says that the Honeycomb OS does not yet support microSD and SD cards?

I have just the same problem. For me, the question is: How long would I have to wait if I wanted to want? I.e.: When will the 3G modells of Transformer and Iconia (A501) be available? Knowing this, it would be much easier to decide what and when to buy. Can anyone help with sure release dates?

why not? check engadget, there is news about the 16gb zoom put up today

Endgaget might as well be Apple, I don't read any of thier reviews. My advice, stay away from them. Anyway, a16gb xoom would be ok in my book but keep in mind that if you plan on steaming content of all sorts and use this as an excuse to justify a 16gb purchase, you'll need to be tethered to a wifi connection at all times. The OS upgrades and updates alone can consume a healthy portion of the 16gbs, leaving you nothing but morsels for you personal stuff.

Re: Motorola Xoom vs Asus Eee Pad Transformer vs Galaxy Tab 10.1

Same dilemma here. Saw all of them at FutureShop here in Toronto yesterday. I must say that the Tab 10.1 and the Asus Transformer have 2 of the most beautiful screen displays that I've ever seen. Makes the Xoom seem washed out and last-year-ish. I like the Xoom, am probably going to get it (32GB, $499 CAD) but seeing the two other screens gave me that momentary "whoa!" feeling that maybe I'm going the wrong way.

I guess one of the big things is support in the future; I don't really want to buy something that goes the way of the HP Touchpad, but one never knows these things. Obviously the iPad is going to be around (I also hear that the Retina display is coming to the iPad 3, probably a huge contender vs. the Asus and the 10.1 Samsung screens, at least).

I played Angry Birds on all 3 (obviously! LOL) to try to get a comparison of speed, lagginess, and most important, screen, and I thought the Xoom was a tad "jumpy".

The other issue for me is that the 16GB Asus is $499 (CAD) and the (typically rude and unhelpful) saleperson had no clue whether a 32GB or higher model would be coming.

Anyway sorry for the rant, and I realize it's a very personal choice, but any guidance or thoughts on this matter from experienced owners would be very much appreciated, as always!

Many thanks.
