Motorola's newest RAZR's might just cut Motorola due to dullnes

Re: Motorola's newest RAZR's might just cut Motorola due to dulln

hey my opinon was bashed to start with whenever i said i wasnt interested in the device if it didnt have the 2 gigs of ram . i was told that I didnt NEED the extra ram or android was so efficeint it didint need it . and i was basically called a fan boy for expecting to get the most for my money or holding a manufacturer up to the highest standards. and if you had read the previous comments you would know i wasnt talking to you or the whole board i was talking to the one guy who made the fan boy comment . ether way this is my last post on the subject as im clearly just a fan boy with a bunch of sensless comments about a mediocre phone . you folks have a nice day . fanboy out !

I never said you were talking to me. I ASKED who you were talking to. If you would set aside your defenses and just read you might experience less frustration. However I do appreciate your maturity in seeing that your senseless comments have run their course.

hey take your cheap shots boss its all good .

JHBThree, i can read and comprehend as well as the next guy go back and read the comments directed towards me .all i said to start with was i love moto hardware but for me i expected more so i'll pass . then i was told several times that more ram was not needed . or i was just a fanboy type person that had to have the biggest or whatever. whenever i offered up reasons for having more ram i was labeled as a fanboy spec warrior or whatever. im sorry my opinon differs from you folks here in the moto forum . but just because its different dont mean its wrong . and just like i said to start with its not like having more availible memory can hurt the phone in anyway. just because you and whoever else dont think it needs it is your opinon . i never told anybody else not to buy the device i SIMPLY said I will pass on it. since then ive been defending my right to my opinon .

im trying to get out of here and leave you guys to it but the cheap shots come out the min i say im done .

How is it a cheap shot to tell you, giving factual evidence in the process, that more ram is not necessary? It is NOT our opinion that it doesn't need it, it is FACT. It is how Linux and android works. That you feel it needs mor ram is your opinion, but it is not supported by facts.

i took the quoted reply from legal america as a cheap shot . and i did bring up the idea that maybe in future as in next year there may be apps or games that make use of more memory but i guess that is not a good enough reason for more ram . whenever i bought my first computer i was told i would never NEED more than 256mb of ram barely 2yrs later i was obsolete . i feel with the way the smart phone world is changing and all the new features being added its just a matter of time before 2gb is the standard . can anybody tell me that android 4.0 doesnt use more memory than 2.0 did ??

It doesn't matter if it does because android itself is more efficient now than it has ever been.

I didn't cheap shot you. I quoted you directly. And to be fair, no one waited for you to leave before taking shots at you. It's not like we're all in a room together. Just cause you log off doesn't mean the conversation has to end. And again, I thought you said you were out?

well im sure you will correct me if im wrong but whatever memory the OS needs for itself it takes off the top then whatever is left you and the OS can use anyway you want to is that right ? whenever i look at my app manager there is a certain portion of the memory already in use that is for the OS i assume . then whatever is left you can see whats using it and stop or force close ect ect. it doesnt matter how efficient the OS is as it grows its gonna take more and more off the top is this correct in how ive described it ?

No, it isn't.

Oh great. Another "last word" guy.

Lol at these forums.

The most exciting thing to me is the M. Smaller form with the same screen size as current. The main reason i passed on the razr was the fact that it is wide as a barn and feels terrible to hold with not a very big screen to warrant it. This one fixes that.

Still nonremoveable batteries is a stupid idea. Its like making car tires nonreplaceable. Just stupid.

For the ram argument. You dont NEED more ram, but its sure nice to have. You dont NEED any of the hardware this phone has for it to run well for normal use, but pull up a game or have a bunch of apps going an you want all of it and more. Multitasking is my favorite thing about android, and anything to allow it to happen better is a good idea. You dont need 400hp in a daily driver, but if you take it to the track every now and then, you sure want it to be there.

please enlighten me ? i have a interest in learning . does the OS not suck up more and more of the availible memory the bigger the OS gets ? with my OG droid it had 256 and it had roughly 80 to 100mb available memory. my Maxx had 1gb of ram and it normally had around 300mb available . so you tell me whats eating up the memory ? cause im in no way a power user i dont have live wall papers or tons of widgets running .

The bickering needs to stop. Seems to follow some of the same people around. If you have nothing of value to add, then don't reply. If you think someone crossed the line, report the post. Don't know where the line is? Read the rules linked in my signature.

Thanks.

Not necessarily. Especially when you're talking about phones that run manufacturer skins.

Also, the amount of free ram is irrelevant. It means nothing.

Careful about making "NEED" all caps. It might set some people off.

The actual size of the M is such a compelling feature of this new phone. Not much bigger than the current iPhone, yet you get a much bigger screen.

We'll really need to wait for reviews or or feedback from people who have it now (they gave 'em away to the press after the announcement) to determine if this phone should have had 2GB of RAM or if 1GB of RAM is enough. Until then, all of this bickering is moot.

i would disagree with the statement that the free ram is irrelevent . seems like it would come in handy during multi tasking type situations . and i still maintain that the bigger the OS gets the more memory its gonna use for its core functions leaving less for the end user .

Free ram is irrelevant. Read up on how android and Linux use ram. (I linked to a post by Jerry earlier in this thread)

Unless people get that issue HTC One X users were complaining about- you remember, the whole "multitasking isn't working right" debate, then I'd argue that it's irrelevant.

And the ATRIX HD has similar specs (Krait S4, 1GB of RAM) and I don't hear any complaining from them.

The Nexus 7 tablet has a Tegra 3 quad-core processor and 1GB of RAM. There doesn't seem to be any issues with multitasking issues in that device either.

Depending on how much the Android base gets from Jelly Bean onwards, RAM might be more of an issue but I don't worry about that too much. If I keep thinking about the next version, it'll be hard to enjoy what I have now.

But as explained earlier, free RAM means just about nothing in Android. And once it's being used, it's not free RAM anymore.
