Moving apps to SD card

OK so I am very new to android (> 1 month) and I have rooted my Fascinate. I have moved all the apps that were safe to remove to my SD card as in a previous stickey. I was also under the impression that all my apps could be moved to the SD card, I am just talking about the ones from the market. When I moved them all to my SD card I could not find them. Also my phone did not run correct when it ran at all.

I have put them all back where they came from but my question is did I do something wrong or can they just not run from the SD card?

Any help would be much appreciated.......

apps can only be run from the sd card after the 2.2 update.

2.1 and all versions before need apps2sd, but i'm not sure if they have that working for the fascinate (nor would there be any real need, since we should get the 2.2 update soon enough)
