On my home PC, I use VLC and it runs MP3s with relative paths, which is great because I can move files around without problem if I keep the folder structure.

It's not strictly a thing with VLC, but I found that using the .RAM playlist structure, which VLC recognizes, but it does work and with "relative paths". i.e., here is an example:

\POMODORO MUSIC\PomodoroMusic- 01h51m19s- Infinite Ambient Mix.mp3
\POMODORO MUSIC\PomodoroMusic- 03h07m30s- Deepest Relax Amb Music Angelic Choir from Outer Space.mp3
\POMODORO MUSIC\PomodoroMusic- 05h43m38s- 5HH Relaxing Instr Worship Music-SOUNDSofHEAVEN, Prayer ... .mp3

The .RAM file is found outside the folder labelled "\POMODORO MUSIC" but it plays the 3 MP3 files listed (also handles video formats, too, so not limited because the playlist handles all file formats VLC does.

But I've not found a single satisfactory way to do this type of thing in Android.

I use MX Player because it was the best mp3 player I could find that just plays files in sequence in a folder, but when I dl a recent version that supposedly supported playlists, I found that that's not really true. I file played in a folder causes MX Player to create a playlist but of the current folder. It didn't seem to be able to handle more than the current folder's contents let alone work with created playlists with specific names and handling files in other folders/locations (specifically, subfolders, really).

Has anyone found a solution to this seeming deficiency in Android? I haven't but really need it, because what I've had to do is create FOLDERS of the same MP3s with the required MP3s (because they're in sections, as it were), rather than creating playlists that draw out those mp3s in the sequence needed on different days.

Thanks for any help on this issue!

Is there anything else out there that anyone knows? This is still a serious lack with Android phones all these years later.

Thank you!

I'm not sure you may find an answer. I play music via .mp3 as well, but I don't care for making playlists. I have a folder of my favorite songs, and play them on shuffle.

Downloading songs is almost becoming a dinosaur, sadly. I think the majority of people stream music.

I agree, but I know there must be someone out there who may also need this who has found a solution. I don't stream, myself, as such. I have a few songs bookmarked on YouTube, ambiance, spa music, and such, and that's good enough for me.

But I have specialized MP3s that require being played a certain way, which means I have 4 folders of many of the same snippets that my player then handles in sequence. It's a pain! If I could make a playlist, I could have ONE set of ALL the mp3s, and choose the ones and the order as per the daily needs.

So will keep up the hope while I keep looking. It's too bad VLC for Android doesn't work like VLC for PC, which handles .RAM files and relative paths quite well!

Thanks.
