MP3s show as Unknown Artist and don't play

This has been a big problem since the Ginerbread update. I have tried everything including editing the tags, switching the ID3 to v2.2. When I transfer the MP3s they show on the SD Card but then when I unmount the phone and go to my Music App, like half the songs show as Unknown Artist and don't play. I've used Songbird, Doubletwist and drag and drop into the music file and it still does this same thing. I've moved the same songs over and some songs show unknown artist one time then others another time. Anyone else having this problem and are there any solutions?

Do they work with the default music player? I know that I have downloaded songs from free mp3 apps on the market, and some of them come up as unknown artist and do not play. I currently am using poweramp on my Shift to play music though.

I've used the Default player and no they don't...I'll load the same 100 songs and on one attempt 60 songs will be OK and the other 40 unknown artist and the next time some of the ones that worked will be unknown artist and some of the ok ones will be Unknown

one thing i've figured out is that songs with file names that start with a number seem to be unrecognizeable

Somewhere between today's update and removing/re-adding the music widget, this seems to be fixed now on my Shift.
