My Treo(s) had no problem playing these files. I can't get these to play and tech support wasn't much help. Can anyone suggest a player that will play a downloaded .mpg file?

from what ive read it cant. its something to do with the programming on the OS that doesnt allow it. maybe in the future we can though...

This seems almost comical for a state of the art device. The Blazer browser and Palm OS had no problem handling mpeg files; seems odd that Android overlooked this.
But I assume someone will come up with an app or it will be addressed in 2.0

Maybe it's a wrapper issue because the Android OS does support MPEG-4. Maybe try renaming the file to .mp4 or remuxing.

Yea seems like a step backwards. My old skule audiovox 6700 with winmo 5.0 was able to handle mpg fine. Whatsup droid?

Amazingly enough, my DVD player refuses to play 8-track tapes, either.

Just transcode your mpg files to a more modern format like mp4.

I see your argument. However.....we aren't talking about an inferior outdated piece of technology that is no longer used. Were are saying (in terms of your argument) our DVD players aren't HD compatible or "our DVD players aren't surround sound capable" or our droides do everything but have left out some basic expectations of modern tech. . In other wards we have expected if it doesnt play flash (equivalent to hi Def) it would at least play MPG/MPEG (equivalent to standard def)

Point taken.
