MSSG with a timer

i received a message that came from a number missing the (+1-000) area code, it has a timer next to it which is still counting up by the minute. i tried to respond and new mssg in a new thread came in saying mssg not sent invalid # of digits. so i went back into the thread and long pressed the mssg from them with the timer. it shows it was sent by me to them, the opposite of what happened. i longpressed mssg i sent to them and it says it was sent, like t went thru and i used no area code. HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE??
