My playlist woes might be related to mtp not being enabled. I'm used to relatively ancient androids. How does one check if USB interface is set to mtp and is there any way to enable mtp if it's not enabled?

I'm able to load mp3's on and off the phone, of course, but I think the root cause of my m3u woes is that the pc and Note 20 Ultra aren't communicating on more than a superficial level.

Swipe down the notification panel while the phone is connected via USB -- is there a USB notification there? If so, select it and look for an MTP or File Transfer option.

I found a youtube video which covered how to do it. In the phone dialer, type *#0808# (after setting usb debug to on in developer mode). A screen instantly pops up thatshows all the different types of USB settings. Mine had many more options than his. It was set to MTP plus ADB as default. I set it to mtp only, hit ok, restarted, and tested the m3u.

Same thing. I give up.. As of last night,I can't even make a from scratch playlist. The m3u won't update. For instance, I took a blank one, added a bunch of stuff in. It stays at 0kb. Before it'd be whatever the text size was, 40,60, 80kb, etc.

I am going to play around and see if I can make a playlist on my pc and save it directly to the phone now.

If that fails, if there's not a cloud way or some workaround how to make a playlist, I'm going to have to go back to the ancient S5 as my daily driver. The Note Ultra would be seriously hobbled.
