MTP / PTP Mode disappeared

I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 and recently updated to Android 5.0.1

Before the update:
- My phone would recognize my laptop when being plugged in with an original Samsung usb cable. The MTP/PTP menu option would show up on top of the screen. The desired mode could be selected.
- The laptop would recognize my Galaxy S4. I could use the KIES3 program or just go into my phone through explorer.

After the update:
* All drivers have been updated.
* Kies has been updated
* Developer's Mode - USB Debugging has been enableld
* Using original Samsung cables-

- The phone does not acknowledge being connected to the laptop anymore and the MTP/PTP menu does not pop up anymore.
- It seems that after the update to Android 5.0.1 the option for MTP/PTP has disappeared. The suggested place under "storage-menu" does not exist in the Samsung Galaxy S4. Also dialing*#0808# does not seem to make a difference.
- The laptop does not recognize the phone, not explorer under devices/storage nor with the KIES program.

Does anybody know how to get the MTP/PTP mode back or is there another way to access your phone through you computer?

I'm having the same problem with my Galaxy Note Edge along with the SD Card isn't acknowledged . . . maybe that's a different issue.

How do you get to the connection Mode (MTP) device setting in version 5.0.1?

I THINK you open settings> more> Developer options> (turn on if you haven't already) and put check in USB debugging.
