Multi-msg issue: first msg gets dropped.

Lately I have been having people tell me that the first msg of any multiple msg is being dropped, IE: I send a msg that exceeds the 160 char. limit and when I send it they only get the 2nd (in a 2 part msg).

Could this be related to using CyanogenMod 7.1 DREW-003 Custom ROM vs another Custom ROM?

Also, out of curiosity, what type of assistance does Sprint offer if I were to bring it in to a store (stock of course) in relation to replacing the phone or wanting to replace it and upgrade?
