Everybody here was worried we would never see a multi-touch app officially released by Google for this phone. Every Android phone that wasn't made by HTC lacked multi-touch apps stock as far as I know, at least in the US.

I highly doubt that this is Google telling us ANYTHING other than; "here is an update!"
I like the way this is pointing. LOL. Honestly, I would like to see it in the gallery before the web. But having it it in our maps works for me.
I don't use my phone for pictures really so maps and browser would do it for me.

although I just noticed..the pinch to zoom only applies in normal maps. Using the navigation mode it doesn't matter much for me. Still fun to play with though.

The pinch zoom works great with Google maps. It works much better than it does on the dolphin browser. I was worried that the pinch zoom (when we got it officially) would be like it was on the dolphin browser. Good to know that it can be better and when its official from Google, it probably will.
I am loving the pinch to zoom, Its so smooth.. I would love to see multi touch with the photo gallery, and browser..

Root/Overclock your Droid and you have multi-touch and a faster processor. Can't believe I stood with my BB for those long 10 months.
I really hope that Google changes this release to manufacturer model and starts releasing right to consumer. Especially for those with a straight Google experience phone. That being said... I'm snowed in this weekend here in Philly. I'm not sure my phone will survive this without my rooting it. LOL!
Pretty sure there is no way around that. Its up to the manufacturer to provide and make the updates for us. The developer of the OS just makes it available to the manufacturer. Its how Blackberry works, how Windows Mobile works, and now its how Android works.
Perhaps, but it's not the best model. Apple doesn't do it that way and they're quite successful with it.
Oh yeah I agree totally! I wish it was different but its how it is and heres why.
Apple only have it like this because they went with AT&T who bent over backwards to accommodate Apple. They are a company who wants 100% control over EVERY aspect. The idea of the phone manufacturer having no say what happens and the people making the OS forcing everything upon them is not practical for non-iphone devices. Blackberry has tons of phones. There are 14 or so phones running Android. Countless Windows Mobile devices. It isn't one size fits all there.
Apple has one major advantage, their hardware has not changed that much from iphone to iphone 3g to iphone 3gs. They can do a one size fits all OS and push it out to every device. They currently have 3 phones with 2 variants of each where the only difference is storage capacity.
With different phone manufacturers come different variants in the OS. To force the OS and every update and feature on every phone by every manufacturer would cripple what makes some phones stand out against others. Android needs variety.

PS.. I totally just rooted and installed the smoked glass rom. Downloaded setcpu. It's like a whole different beast!!
