With this new update we got recently, my music apps are shutting down after I pause. I have to unlock the phone, go to the app and play the music again. Its getting extremely annoying. If anyone has a solution to this i would appreciate it.

One more thing, my Gmail is just stuck in sync. I have checked the settings and its set to 15 min, but on the dropdown notifications its there all the time syncing. Im sure that is draining my battery.

Did you figure anything out on this? I'm having the same issue on my Note 8 after the Oreo update, if I pause Pandora, iheartradio, or sometimes even Google play music for more than a couple seconds the app closes completely. This was not an issue prior to Oreo.

I'm having the same problem since I upgraded from an S7 to an S9. It's driving me nuts. I listen to music with headphones while at work and I often have to pause my music. Sometimes it stays active and I can resume play. Sometimes it closes Pandora and I have to get into the app again, but it moves on to the next song.

I've tried looking into several options in the system, but can't find anything that would close the app.

Same here. I think the app stays open but somehow loses focus so Bluetooth controls don't get to it. Not sure though. Regardless, it is really annoying. I am just happy I found others having this problem. Maybe they will actually fix it?

As far as I can tell, this is the new power monitor features in Oreo for battery life savings. If you go into device maintenance, then under battery, and then go to unmonitored apps, then hit the 3 dot overflow menu, and add apps, try adding your music app. I added Pandora an hour or so ago and haven't had the problem again yet. I will post back after testing longer term...

THANK YOU!!!!!

So far this fix has worked. just like HALFLING, i too listen at work and have to pause my music sometimes. i really hated having to unlock my phone and get back into pandora. but since i read your post with instructions on how to prevent music listening from being killed, it has worked. now when i HAVE to pause and its a good song playing i can go right back to it instead of re-launching and getting a new song. ONCE AGAIN THANK YOU!!!!!

Currently on a pixel and had to go to settings, apps & Notifications, special apps access, battery optimization. Select the drop down menu to show all apps. Then select the app and chose not to optimize. That should let the apps on the back ground with the song paused.

THANK YOU!!!!!

I also have this issue on my Huawei p10 lite, since even before the oreo update. I'm using Poweramp and after 6 months of owning the phone this problem suddenly appeared out of nowhere. i even tried resetting to factory settings and nothing happened. It is extremely frustrating to not be able to resume the music using the Bluetooth headphone buttons. And i have also tried everything in regards to making the app an exclusion for battery management. The app is allowed to run in the background, auto-start, not close, so on and so forth. nothing seems to solve this issue for me and its very sad. nothing wrong with my pair of heaphones, i tried two different brands, same issue. I can't find anything in the settings.

Although for some reason, before downloading Poweramp after my factory reset, the Bluetooth buttons responded only by opening the default music app, not Poweramp. after disabling that music app, nothing responded anymore. i tried making Poweramp my default music app but "default apps" option did nothing, even after selecting Poweramp as my default music app. i dont know what to do.

I had the same problem on note 8 using Amazon music. I think I finally figured it out. I was running Norton antivirus apk so it was always monitoring in the background. I uninstalled Norton and no more music pausing on its own.
