Two things that annoyed me to no end in 2.1 was the fact that when I would sync my music with Windows Media Player

  1. The songs would end up on my DX in alphabetical order instead of album order.
  2. The album art would not copy to the DX.
Well, the first one has been corrected in Froyo, but you need to follow a few steps to get it to work. Do the following:

  1. Connect your DX to your PC.
  2. Open Windows Media Player (WMP) and click on the Sync button at the top of the window.
  3. Make sure that WMP connects to your DX for syncing and let it sync once normally.
  4. When it finishes, within WMP delete everything in your Sync list (not your Library!). WMP will confirm that you want to delete all of the music off of the DX. Confirm this. WMP will delete the music off of the DX. When it finishes the Sync list should be empty.
  5. Drag and drop the music from you Library to the Sync list for the DX and click on Start Sync.
  6. That's it! Your music should now be in the same order as WMP.
I hope this helps!

Just curious, what file format are you using? mp3, wma, m4a?
My mp3's are ok, but AAC m4a still has missing album art and alphabetical ordering problem.

Interesting. I use iSyncR and its still (and always has been) alphabetical. Wonder if a variant of this would work.

Yea, they fixed track order, which was a big deal, but now the app can't run for 5 minutes without completely crashing the phone requiring a battery pull. Good one motorola....

Use the cubed player. It puts songs in the album order AND gets the album art - even for my more obscure artists.

This is my biggest grip with this phone. I use my phones for music mostly and this is killing me. I have installed MixZing which takes care of it, but I wish that the default player did this on its own.

And thanks for the tip I am going to give it a whirl.

My files are wma. I still have the album cover art problem and have had to resort to an app from the market to get the art. Maybe they'll fix that in Gingerbread! LOL

Give us a solid music player

I am becoming frustrated with the droid X music player. Since the 2.2 official update all cover art for m4a (itunes AAC) has disappeared. I also can confirm mp3's are OK. All my m4a files are tagged perfectly in itunes with artwork embedded in each file (verified in universal tagging software). I had a friend test a music file on his HTC incredible with Android 2.2 and worked perfect! So we can pretty much narrow it down to the stock player on the Droid X. I was really hoping to retire my ipod and use my droid X as the primary music player in the car (who wants to carry around 2 devices). Bottom line is the stock player is buggy and frankly, kind of sucks! Alphabetical track order, No genre option, No standard playlist support??? C'mon Motorola...The Droid X is arguably the best smart device on the market. It can't be that difficult to figure out standard tagging and design a player that functions properly. Sorry guys, I don't intend to sound negative. I'm just disappointed that a smart device of this caliber and cost doesn't offer a solid music player. I know there are other players on the market and have tried a few of them. It seems they use the core player and just skin it? Anyone out there that has a solution or a fix? Please:)
