Music Player widget controls, has anyone run into a problem with it not working consistently?

I am hoping someone who uses the player control widget can tell me if they have run into any problems with it consistently working? I like keeping my Note 5 in my pocket when getting into my car and just pressing the play/pause button to resume playback. Sometimes it works but a majority of the time the widget doesn't resume play. It may be the app that I am using, which is primarily PocketCast because I don't remember having this issue when I was using BeyondPod. Has anyone else noticed this issue? Is there a better player controller widget I could install or is there some sort of setting that I may not have turned on to allow music/podcasts to resume playing?

Well I seem to have this problem as well. Coincidently I also have a Note 5 but don't know if that's related. I will say that it works to start something playing from scratch about half the time but once I start it on my phone its pretty consistent being able to control it. Seems to be the same across Google Music and BeyondPod for me.

Okay, I noticed this issue is also a problem on the older Gear S. I am actually going back to the S6 Edge from the Note 5 and will see if this problem happens. Maybe there is a better music controller on the Gear appstore?

I got my S6 Edge and the Gear S works with it flawlessly. The normal widget will resume play with the last application playing every time without fail so far. I wonder if it is due to the older phone being more compatible with the Gear S?
