Music player widget not updating with new songs

Every time I copy an mp3 into the external microSD card, the Music player widget doesn't update with the new song in the scroll down list.
Instead, I would have to go into the music player app and then browse to that specific song and THEN play it once, then it would update / appear in the widget list.

Deleting the widget and re-adding it and restarting the phone doesn't help.

As you can imagine, this is excessively tedious if I'm adding a lot of music and have to browse to every single one of them before it appears in the widget.

Anyone know how to fix this?
