Must have apps when rooted

I'd highly recommend a good back up app such as MyBackup Pro or Titanium Backup Pro. Not only can you backup a lot of stuff, but they also have the ability to freeze bloatware on a stock ROM (although truthfully I haven't noticed any performance or battery gains from doing so, mainly just a cleaned up app drawer). Also, AdAway is useful to block ads or more importantly block known malicious websites. It supports using many different hosts file blocking sources, one in particular MVPS is what I've been using for years on my home PC's and now on my rooted Android devices. Web sites tend to load faster as the ads are blocked and it provides a little peace of mind that known malicious web sites are blocked as well.

SetCPU: I like to choose what I consider to be the best governor, and I always slightly overclock.

ADW Launcher EX: I know I don't have to be rooted to use this, but this is my launcher of choice with any CM 7.2 or Desensed ROMs. If I'm using a Sense ROM, I'm happy using Sense.

4eXT: I use it in place of clockwork mod because I prefer the touchscreen controls to pushing the volume and power buttons. However...

ROM Manager: I still use this to manage my ROMs, even though I could use 4eXT or.....

Rom Toolbox Pro: Great theme manager, root browser, but I mainly use it to backup and restore apps and data. Makes installing new ROMs easy with its batch install.

MyBackup Pro: I use it to backup sms, mms, call log, bookmarks, my Note Everything files.

I know there's some redundancy in these apps, but I'm comfortable with the way I use them, so I'll keep doing it. Plus, I like supporting the deveopers that work to make our phone experience better.
