Mute Function

I bought my phone last October. In April I was experiencing a charging issue and was given a replacement phone. I don't know what OS I had, but I did not have MUTE on my original phone but I do now and I HATE it. I miss too many calls. I always tap the volume key by accident and put it to mute. Is there a way I can "Down Grade" to an earlier OS that does not have mute?
