How do I mute or the sounds when I am in a text or email program and use my microphone to dictate a text message or email, or anytime I speak and want to use the mic. I don't need it to tell me that I've engaged the microphone. I know it. The little noise that sounds when I click the mic before I speak, and the double tones that I hear when I click send? Very annoying. Thank you and Happy New Year. Might trade in my Pixel 2 XL for an iPhone 7 if I am unable to mute this thang. . . .

The mic is designed to pick up sound from a decent distance. You can't mute all sounds but your voice, you can only mute the mic (in which case you can't dictate anything) or not. If you can't find a speech to text app that works better at filtering out the noise, you may have to plug in a "close talking" mic - one so insensitive that it has to be at your mouth to pick you up. (Unfortunately, Dragon Naturally Speaking isn't available for phones - it filters out a lot of noise by itself.)
