My apology letter from The Googles

Dear Fred,

Mr. Google here. A funny thing just happened. Mrs. Google rang the dinner bell, calling me into the house for dinner. But, when I finally got in here, it turns out she had only turned the oven on and dinner was nowhere near being ready! Isn't that hilarious? LOL

Anyway, I wanted to apologize for a few things that have transpired recently, and some that have NOT. LOL.

First of all, I'm sorry I tricked you into pre-ordering one of our nifty new Nexus tablets last month. We shouldn't have given you the impression that, by showing unfailing devotion and enthusiasm for our company and product, you would somehow receive the tablet before everyone else. To think, ALL of the retailers are sold out! Isn't that just dandy....for us? Anyway, sorry you were the first to order and the last to receive.

I'd also like to apologize for lying to you about your order being shipped on Friday, when actually I simply asked UPS for a tracking number so they'd come pick it up on Monday. Don't forget, your two-day shipping starts from the day the the package actually starts to move towards our outdoor parking lot, not the day we told you it had shipped, which is last Friday. Hey! That sounds like what the wifey did with my dinner! "Hey, honey! Ring the bell when dinner is ready, not when you turn the oven on! Silly!" LOL.

Anyway, Mr. Charon. Thanks for your patience and understanding. Since we treated you so poorly, tied up $287 in your checking acount for three weeks, let the retailers sell out before shipping yours and lied to you about when the product was actually shipped, we'd like to refund you the price of shipping, upgrade your shipping to 1-day, give you one of the leather cases we had designed for the tablet. IS that a square deal, or what?

Oh, by the way, just pick one of those fabulous consolation prizes, not all three! Silly! LOL

Toodles!

The Google Family.

I'm not sure what to say to this. Is it a fantasy?

I ordered my Nexus 7 on July 2. It will be delivered tomorrow.
Sure, I would have liked to have been the first kid on the block to hold on in my hands, but in the grand scheme of things being first isn't all that important. What is important is how good the tablet is; in form, function, design and build quality. It may have been inferred, but Google did not promise to make me the coolest kid on the block before all the other kids - we did that ourselves. All pre-ordering did was exchange a brick & mortar buying experience with an online shopping experience. It did not guarantee exclusivity. If I’m wrong, I’m sure someone will share the fine print of the Google document that says so.

I know this is sounding like a rant, and I don’t want it to be. I share everyone’s disappointment that I didn’t receive my Nexus 7 ahead of everyone else – but this sense of entitlement wears thin at times.

I know the OP is humorous, and I get that. Well Done Sir!

I sure hope that's fantasy. I see you're using a couple of different Android devices...

Yes, and I have other Android devices. I really like Android and, yes, I will own other Android devices before I'm finished. I just don't like being lied to and misled. I do understand that Android is Googles' but other devices I purchase will be from a third party. I will no longer support the Goonie Play Store.

I think part of the droid rage is people paid for 2 day shipping with the expectation they would receive it the same day as people who did B&M pickup. Now people are reporting UPS estimated delivery dates 4 days later than I got one at a local store.

There's a commercial that asks, "Why pay more for less?" I think that applies in spades to people who paid for 2 day shipping and now will get theirs later than people who paid nothing for shipping. Are those customers being unreasonable? I don't think so but YMMV.

Thank you, Tostler, for the kind words at the end.

However,

I wish I could find a copy of what I read that stated pre-ordered Google tablets would be shipped by mid-July and retail stores would offer them by the end of July or early August.

If they had stated that retail outlets would carry them prior to them being shipped from pre-orders, I would not have pre-ordered one. Nobody would have. I would have simply diligently checked those retail outlets often to make sure I was able to order/receive one before they were sold out. If I was not able to do so, at least that would have been fair. (Then, I would complain about how Google should not have offered it to anyone unless they had enough to go around.);)

Google's only interest in offering pre-orders was to gauge the interest in the tablet. I feel like Google realised they would do better for themselves to ensure retailers were taken care of first (you know, in case they needed those retailers to move merchandise in the future) and their most enthusiastic fans got moved to the back of the line.

They lied to people who wanted to cancel their order by telling them the shipping process had already started, 1.5 weeks before a single tracking number was even generated!

So, please don't defend Google. Let me be angry and indignant at Google. My expectations were generated from what I read before I ordered the tablet, not from the building anticipation of forums. Though, I will admit, the forums did fan the flames. ;)

I promise to enjoy the tablet when it actually arrives.

Cheers!

P.S. for others. The letter from "The Google family" is not real. That was just me, blowing off steam.

I just re-checked my tracking number and the tablet is supposed to arrive tomorrow(Tuesday) instead of Wednesday. It's almost as if UPS is taking up the slack left by Google's irresponsible announcement that they had shipped the order last Friday when all they actually did was slather on a shipping label.

Have a great day!:D See, I am happier now!

I hope the planes from Louisville to your cities make it OK. If one crashes enroute, slamming into a populated neighborhood destroying homes, businesses and retail outlets I can imagine the reaction on AC.

Somebody will see on TV the mangled debris and chared bodies being pulled from the flames and say to themselves "WTF??? Sheeeit, man, now I gotta wait another week for my friggin' Nexus 7!!!!!! This sucks. Gonna call Google CS and give 'em a what fer!"

My order number was generated last Thursday, and my N7 arrives tomorrow (Tuesday). All makes sense if you allow 24 hours for the device to actually make it to UPS, and realize that Saturday and Sunday are not business days!

Three cheers to the lucky people who got theirs through retailers (earlier than planned), but mine is arriving just as I would expect it.

Google should have packaged the tablets to withstand a plane crash. If I open it and find that's not the case, I'm sending it back. ;)

I think a lot people fail to realize, not getting some of the first batch is a great thing. I have gotten first batch tech devices and trust me, it has gone wrong more often than not. A lot of the time these devices have bugs and flaws that hinder their performance. That "oh so new" sensation may great and wonderful. Being able to having a pissing contest with your friends and win, also cool. But, when the device has some flaws that are not that great, it takes away the joy of owning a device. Personally, I would think waiting and getting a solidly designed and manufactured device would be more important.

How tasteless. People get warned by a mod for calling someone a troll, but you make sick jokes with no problems. Nice.
