I went in last week to my local bestbuy and picked up a reservation ticket for a 32gb metallic gray Galaxy Tab. I called this store this morning to make sure I can pick it up in the store tomorrow the 17th. The store said they have not arrived yet. They are hoping the 10.1 tablets come in on a UPS delivery later this afternoon. IS this normal??? I would assume they already had them in stock.

yeah they would most likely get it in later today if not first thing tomorrow morning before the store opens

I don't know if there is anybody more clueless than Best Buy.

I just called my local BB and they have no idea if they are getting any and they supposedly have no way to tell.

Huh?

So trucks just show up in the dead of night with random boxes to re-supply inventory?? Gimme a break. Are the supply trucks like a random grab bag where they never know what will show up from day to day? Apparently they just throw the door open to the delivery truck each night in anticipation of what the Best Buy fairy delivered. Maybe the trucks leave the warehouse and they just pick a store at random to deliver to. Some days a store gets a bunch of TV's that they already have in stock, while another store gets a load of Monster Cable that nobody buys because it's overpriced.

Absolute morons.

Best Buy absolutely knows what it's getting in stock. With certain pre-order items (or, e.g., when the Wii was hot) people are instructed to say they don't know anything about the product. Which sucks to say the least, because the only way we'll know whether or not they have something like this in stock is if we either know someone who works there or trick the phone operators.

Like if we called pretending to be from another store asking whether or not the item showed up and how much due to a possible shipping error. Theoretically, of course. Ahem.

yea got a ****ty response from my best buy too. hopefully tomorrow I can just pick one up when they open.

First rule of retail:

If an item isn't available for sale yet, it is NEVER in stock, even if it is. At my old jobs, I've had stuff in stock before for close to a week before it went on sale and we were instructed to inform customers that we didn't have it, didn't know when we would get it, but we would have it by the time it went on sale.

Asking someone to tell you if a product is in stock yet before it's on sale is asking them to lie to you.

Think about it. What is the first question you'll likely ask if they say yes?

'Can I pick it up now instead of waiting?"

And they'll have to say no, and customers react poorly when they hear no. Better to let them assume you're just an idiot, because chances are they would think it anyway.

The shroud of secrecy is laughable and a lame excuse for customer relations.

Easy answer: We were shipped 20, 5 have been reserved by pre-order, and the remaining 15 will be available on a first come, first served basis tomorrow morning when we open.

Done.

It's not that tough...it's retail for cripes sake, you're not operating a particle collider.

Ehh I remember the way Best Buy handled the Nexus S launch... That was fun. :-!

Don't worry about it, they'll have it, but don't expect to get anything informative about the launch until it happens. :p

I went to my local best buy and they never even heard about preorders. The guy in charge was nice enough to try to get it done for me and emailed the inventory guys but he warned me it may not work. Will have to call in the morning but I'm on call so I hope I don't have to go to the hospital beforehand lol

I pre ordered mine through Amazon Prime yesterday with the free 2 day shipping and mine says it will get here on Tuesday.

I am standing in my local Best Buy and they claim that they don't have it in but can order it. The worst part is that they won't have a floor model to play with until Sunday when it shows up in the ad. Damn Best Buy.

FYI, Best Buy in Union Square, NYC has no more gray models. Only a handful of white. That's all I know.

got back from Best Buy and none are in stock. . . . they are expecting it on Sunday which is no fun at all.

Just another Best Buy fail.

Went to the store at 10am (opening time) and was the only one there. Walked in, asked about the Tab, and got the expected blank stare and followed with the usual "let me check". At that point I knew the battle was already lost.

They said they had two, yes two, units coming in and asked if I wanted to leave my name because they are a "hot item" to which I responded, if they are a "hot item" then why in the hell do you only have two shipping and why did you have to look it up to see what I was talking about?

Absolutely inept.

I went in to pick-up my pre-order at Best Buy a few minutes after they opened. The store had a huge Galaxy Tab banner on the front of the building, just below the Best Buy sign. I thought this looks promising and expected to get my Tab. However, the guy in the tablet area said they had expected a shipment on the 15th or the 16th and didn't get any. Walked out of the Best Buy and drove to Fry's where they had the 16GB and 32GB Grays in stock. Left a few minutes later with a 32GB in hand. If you are looking for a 10.1 Tab in Plano (Dallas, Tx. area), Fry's has them.

So, to sum up, bad supply chain = no sale for Best Buy.

My Best buy has 10 (5 of each color) in stock of the 16GB only
I'm picking it up in a couple hours

I called a Best Buy near work and they guy said 'oh, I thought that was coming out in September.'

He said none of the BB in the Phoenix, AZ have any in stock :(
