My Bionic

Just wanted to be 100% clear on this. It takes a long time to charge? and not it takes a relatively long time before charging?

Because taking a long time to charge is actually a negative about the phone and not a positive...

We must all wait until B has cycled the phone a few times. Virgin charges always take longer. Break in the battery B!

I can't wait to see this phone in person. Especially the screen.
I'm hearing mixed reviews in regards to the pentile screen.
Some say they are fine with it, while others say it's the absolute worst.
Quite a few are saying that it's the best screen as far as outdoor visibility is concerned.
Being able to see my screen outside is important to me.
I was able to see my previous BlackBerry phone with no problems outside, but I can't see anything with the Android phone I currently have.

Another phone I'm keeping my eye on is the Prime. Supposed to have a Super Amoled display.
Does the pentile screen give better outdoor visibility than the Super Amoleds?

In my opinion yes.

This is going to seem like a pentile troll, but I assure you it isn't.

Please show us this page:

Green Background Test Demonstration

Show that page loaded on the bionic. It's a green screen test page, that should be one of the worst looking things possible on a pentile. Your pictures/videos so far have been amazing, and honestly have me considering the phone again, over waiting for the Prime. Even zoomed in on the batt life, I haven't seen a trace of any pentileness yet, and if it can still look good under the worst possible circumstances, I may be jumping on this thing like a fat kid on a cupcake. Thanks for all the info.

That's all well and good. I had a Charge and had trouble seeing it in bright sunlight. Not with the Bionic. When I had sunglasses on I couldn't see the Charge screen well at all in sunlight even in portrait. Please don't start this. I haven't seen a smartphone that has been released in the past 4-6 months that was not impressive in certain ways. The screen on this phone is very good.

Not trying to dismiss this....but if it only looks bad on that green background test....but looks fine with normal, everyday use everywhere else....does it really matter?

Its like if I try swiping, scrolling my screens real fast like I see WP7 folks do when comparing it to Android phones.....well...I wouldnt normally swipe or scroll that fast on a regular basis. Maybe when looking for mp3's or files in a folder that has lots of files in it.

Does it really matter if WP7 screens swipe and scroll faster than Android's? (this was from last year. I'm sure Android has gotten a lil better in that dept.) Does it really matter if it looks bad under specific conditions? But....outdoor visibility is something that looks bad under specific conditions too. At the same time....how many times will we be outside vs. how many times will we be on a webpage with that specific background?

Well that was funny.

Went to that "green" page on my Droid X and the whole page looked like it was "scintillating" for lack of a better word with little tiny black "pixels?" that scintillated when I moved my head back and forth.......

then i peeled back my non-glare screen protector...

and the page looked perfect. :)

Steinheil Screen Protectors FTW, verizon ones FTL.

Hopefully they make one for the Bionic as well. They are awesome on my DX.

Also, thanks for all the videos and info so far man, I am getting this phone hopefully by friday.

I just left Verizon. Had to check out the "pentile screen". I looked at the DX2 and D3. I currently have iPhone 4 and I am not sure what everyone is worried about. I don't have a problem with these screens. Is it quite as sharp as retna? No. Will you notice without comparing it? I doubt it.

Also, on another note. This Verizon store is very Pro iPhone and they said the Bionic was the first 4G android that they are excited about. Just saying.

Pentile screen is one of, if not THE primary complaints about the phone during development, and for ME PERSONALLY it is a far more important consideration than the visibility in sunlight.

I'm not trying to start up a pentile/ S-Amoled debate here, I already know know this screen has certain other advantages in sunlight visibility and power consumption, but neither of those features where what I was concerned about, nor does bringing them up in this specific situation do anything but potentially start yet another pentile/Amoled whine fest.

What does interest me, is that so far in any of the videos/screenshots shown in this thread, there hasn't been any visible pentile related pixilation in any of the green areas (like the battery life indicator), hence the request for the test page, as it purposely increases the sample size large enough to get a good view of how the Bionic's screen specifically does with green colored areas. I don't expect to encounter many completely green screens in the wild/real world use, but I DO EXPECT to encounter the color green,so I don't think it's an entirely unreasonable request.

Glad to hear that you are comparing it to the Charge. I was about to get the Charge this past week, but held off when I heard that the Bionic was coming out next week. If the Bionic fairs better in sunlight in comparison to the Charge, then the Pentile screen may be the way to go.

I am more worried about the ghosting than the pentile.

It matters to people with a hate agenda.

I mean, don't you always look at your phone while having an entirely green background? No? Oh, me neither.

come on dudes. the purpose of this thread is that moto send this guy a Bionic, and out of the kindness of his heart, he is giving us a first look into the device. no this vs. that, what is better / what is worse. i am interested in the feature comparisons, but because it offers a lens which we can view the specs with. from my perspective, i still have an OG droid, and i am pretty certain any and all of the features of the bionic will satisfy my desire for an upgraded phone. :D

i miss the days of the OG droid... so much less bickering and rudeness. more community.
