Welcome to Android Central! Moved to the Android Auto forum.

Can you clarify the problem? Are you saying that you have an Android Auto head unit that has no operating system installed?

You have a head unit that runs Android as an OS. There's nothing to say it's built for Android Auto, which sources through a phone. This is a standalone unit that you can load Google Maps onto. You'd have to get a GPS antenna and hook it up, or figure some way to do it through your USB connected phone.

I mean, this is an old unit. It's running 4.4.4. the current build of Android is 6.0.1.

Very good point--I should've caught that!:( I'll move this to the Other In-Car Systems forum instead.
