AC Question

The screen turns on and off with the button, also doze mode lights the screen up too. Only the checkered lines tho,it has happened before a few times but only lasted a few seconds.

Welcome to Android Central! Does the phone seem to work normally besides the screen? For example, if someone calls you, does it ring? If it does then the fault is probably limited to the screen, which would need to be replaced. If nothing is happening, it could be a more serious problem with the motherboard.

The touchscreen works if I guess the right spot to push it I feel the haptic feedback and if I twist a couple times I feel the camera app open also the flashlight turns on. It fixed itself after about 18 hours I picked it up and it was fine back to normal. Today it just happened again, I was using it set it down for a minute picked it back up and the lines came back making it useless. After a few minutes it fixed itself and I'm using it again. I've tried shaking it and tapping thinking a bad connection or something but it does nothing

I feel like it's software related just because it's random and wasn't dropped or anything before each time it's happened and no water damage

When the screen was messed up with the lines I tried restarting in recovery by holding volume up and down with the power button I can't tell if it works or not cause the screen shows only the lines. It must be the hardware you think if recovery mode doesn't show up?

Did you try booting into Safe Mode as suggested by doogald? Follow the steps in that link.

That's what I would conclude, yes.

You can also try the Verizon Software Repair Assistant, just on the off-chance that it was a bad software update flash for some reason.
