Well, my evo broke...and I didn't think it ever would. I'm so gentle with it, but I have the worst luck, so whatever, it was expected.

The charger slot actually came out with the cord when I pulled it out, then when I went to put the cord back in, it just pushed the port back into the phone, and now its stuck in there, and even if I do get the cord in there, it doesn't charge, and it sucks.

How will I ever text my loveee :(

actually that is covered as a defect by HTC or sprint if within the 1st year. Insurance just makes it easier

One person in another Forum sent there phone with a broken charger port back to HTC and after ONE MONTH got an e mail back from them saying the broken port isn't there fault and the repair charge was $250! for a new mother board. It seems that when that port breaks it takes a piece of the board along with it. Now im not saying its going to go that way for you but it seems like Sprint and HTC are not very generous with warranty work. I'm betting you have a Hardware version 00002 handset? It seems over at phandroid forums most of the broken charging port issues are with early model 0002 build handsets.

Its pretty sad if you can't plug it in to charge and it breaks, if they wouldn't cover it I would walk out and go to verizon.

the micro USB charge port is relatively delicate and i can see users jamming the cord in crooked, sideways, or even upside down. also - if you are using cheap third party chargers and cables from ebay because you are trying to save a nickel - don't be surprised if they damage your phone.

who are you, the lady from the sprint store...? i'm so gentle with my phones, and there was NO abuse at all. SHE ACCUSED ME OF PLUGGING IT IN BACKWARDS. i asked if she thought i was stupid. those reps are a joke.

This USB problem seems to be coming up more and more, its just sad that they have to resort to blaming the user and not the phone. I remember a post a month or two ago and same thing happened, they said they wouldn't cover it because its wear and tear. This phone is not old at all and there shouldn't be any wear and tear yet. It would be like buying a car and two months down the road the door falls off, you bring it back and they say its just wear and tear. If I were you I would be talking to the manager or try another store.

This has me worried. I wish there was some kind of wireless charging system without diy. With my palm treo I wasn't too worried about the battery since it would last for 4 days. With this phone I have to charge it every night at least and I find myself pluggin it in all the time just to grab a few %.

This shouldn't be a problem, these phones are designed to be charged at least once a day. And you can't plug them in in fear of the USB breaking then there has to be a severe problem.

It all depends... It could be a defect but it could be the user. I gave my iPod touch to my daughter... I have had it since it first came out. I used it when I went jogging or riding my bike, plus with a USB port in my car I used it to play music in the car vs making CD's.... Now mind you I have had this iPod touch since it came out, it's a first generation touch. After just a week in the hands of a 7 1/2 year old she complained it stopped working... I plugged it up and it would start to charge and then just shut off... Every thing seemed fine.. Took it to the apple store for them to look at it and they said the port on the bottom of the iPod had been damaged... Basically she was plugging it up and she broke the port... yeah she is 7 and I am not 100% sure how she did the damage but my guess is she tried to put it in upside down or pulled it out at a bad angle and it broke.... Not too hard to do for any one of any age really...

I was scared I broke my EVO when I tried to plug it up in a dark room and after trying a couple of times and flipped the cord over I turned the light on to get it in there... It's a small port and it wouldn't take much to damage it if handled wrong...

Its cheap manufacturing, happened to me 2 weeks after launch. I raised holy hell with sprint and got them to refund the purchase price and give me a new evo at no cost

I don't understand if some people just have bad luck, or are really rude to the people that work in the stores. I had my Pre replaced 4 times for multiple things, and I never once had to go through insurance. If the first one you deal with won't help you, go to a different person. All that I've dealt with have been cool.

Second, if you think Verizon reps are going to treat you better, you are in for a rude awakening.

I think my brother is easily on his 3rd or 4th Pre since he got it a year ago and not once was it through insurance... He just goes up to the local Sprint store and gets it replaced....

I was with Sprint for 6+ years before switching to get an iPhone and never had any of the horror stories some people report. So far with my EVO 2+ months and I have only been to the Sprint store once and that was to get my wife a new Blackberry (I couldn't convince her to get an EVO or even wait for the Epic since her reason is she does not like Touch Screen keyboards)

I had many many pre's...all replaced for free, and valid reasons. But problems were much more common and known with the pre, and reps were more willing to replace. With the EVO, my rep acted like it was perfected, and said that my problem was unheard of. Which isn't true...but maybe she really hasn't seen another case of it.

The fact is, it was a valid problem, I was nice about it, and they basically called me stupid and told me I abused it. Makes me mad...

May also have to do with the limited number of EVO's on the market... From what I have heard from friends who work for Sprint the Pre was never close to sold out and they had plenty sitting around to give away....
