My galaxy note 4 updated and contacts have disappeared

My galaxy note 4 did an automatic update and I lost my contacts..it keeps saying contacts are being updated. It's has been 24hrs and no contacts. How do I get my contacts back?

Re: My galaxy note 4 updated and contacts have disappeared

Welcome to Android Central! Where were the contacts saved to? Your Google account? Samsung account? The local Phone account (hopefully not)?

I'm having this same issue with my nexus 5. I updated to android 6 tonight and everything is fine apart from the fact that my contacts won't sync. It just constantly says "contacts are being updated", for hours now. Really don't want to do a factory reset, any suggestions? =(

If all else fails you've got 30 days to restore contacts:

Restore contacts
You can restore your contact list to the state it was in at any point within the past 30 days. This is helpful if you want to do any of the following:

Recover deleted contacts
Restore contacts after an unsuccessful sync
Undo a recent import
Undo a recent merge

Good info from Rarry. Also, go to Settings>Accounts-Google>[your account], and uncheck Contacts, then check it again, and see if it still gets stuck.
