My GEAR S is great but why does it lack a few basic functions?

I have a solution on the wrist motion to wake to any face or wallpaper
Go to settings....display...wake up screen...select last screen ..
Problem solved ...
Just hit home botton before exiting watch
Should be automatic. ..but ...best we can do for now

I think Samsung rushed this out of door with software side half baked. You'd think with wifi and 3G on board, the watch should have more independent features than a BT only watch. Right now, not much. Even the highly touted Here Map requires the BT tether to start navigation.

I'd like to see the watch has its own Email, contact, calendar sync functionality without the need of connecting to a smart phone. The chipset (Snapdragon 400) and the memory size (512MB) resembles a low to mid range Android phone. There is no reason why it can't perform those duties independently.

The problem isn't the OS per se and more so Dev getting apps updated. They just released the SDK for Dev at the conference so we should more improved apps. You have to remember these apps were designed for the Gear 1 and 2 that had dependent functionality. There are other aspects that needs improving but it's like Android Wear. This is all new venturing so we grow with the hardware.

No, I'd expect first party apps be functional on those three I mentioned. 3rd party apps are nice but not always necessary.

For one, I can't even get any app on my GS3 to sync the S Health on the phone. How sad is that? A nice watch with nice fitness features and yet, there is no smartphone apps to work on all the phones it claim to support. For the record, I know there is S Health app on Samsung phones. But those only work on GS4 or later. Even worse, from what I read, only GS5 version can sync with Gear S.

Yeah I'm not sure I know that's how it was with the Gear 1 and 2 with older model phones

Valid points, but minor issues when you consider everything this watch will do. You can download an excellent calendar app for $1.99 and you can leave as many S-voice recorded reminders as you want very conveniently. In my opinion, this is the best watch out there right now. And, the 3G, Wifi, GPS is a nice option to have. But, it's a watch to support your smartphone - not a smartphone.

Are you saying that S Voice reminders can be done through the watch ot are you saying through the phone?
The one thing I am missing from my Moto 360 is being able to tap on the watch and say remind me......
I am very forgetful and this came in handy.

No, it can't be done out of box. You need purchase an 3rd party app for reminders. The watch itself is really dumb. Nothing smart about it in its current incarnation.

My Notes is a nice one and syncs between the watch and any device running it through dropbox.

No, I don't use it. But I read that there is an app for Gear S that let you use S Voice to set reminders. Do a search.

yes the caps are necessary because to me for a $399 smartwatch, basic things like a calendar adn being able to set reminders through s voice should be a given. dont get me wrong, i love this watch. i am very happy it is the best out there by large margins. but to me these are common sense basic items especially the calendar and as i said i now there are a few free basic calendar aps but they suck and i ma not paying for a decent one when it should be on here.

there's no issue here, we had a disagreement, he has a right to his opinion as i do to mine, then we both agreed on something and moved one. both myself and attit are just here to post our opinions to help or comment. most of us cant say we havent posted a negative comment.

in conclusion i returned my gear s. most of my apps i use on my note 4 are google and those i cannot respond to or use with the gear s. the tizen apps are not up to par yet although they mght be down the line but for now i went back to my moto 360 and very happy. i didnt need the phone feature like i thoguht i did. but it is a beautiful watch with the best screen. i jsut missed the google integration after a couple days. who knows what will happne months from now for like many others here, i am a tech gadget *****. haha
