I had this thought to today that Google is doing all of these "Google Nexus experience" phones from other companies HTC one,Galaxy s4, and now Xperia Z. So when it comes to a new Motorola phone for this year (maybe the Moto X maybe not) that the Government and other companies (looking at you apple) can't complain about Google showing an unfair advantage to Motorola and giving them preferal treatment by coming out with a stock updated by Google only phone

I heard that theory also. I think since one blogger said it that every blogger on tech sites has to follow up.

Ah and here I was thinking that it was am original thought I swear I never read that anywhere before oh well

It's very logical, so I'm not suggesting you pulled it off another source, because it's so likely a scenario that it's entirely plausible for many people to come up with it uniquely; I apologize if it came off that way. I'm just saying that it's spreading like wildfire now.

One thing keeping me from backing this theory - I don't expect these new Motorola phones phones to be "Nexus Experience" devices. I want Motorola to be able to do their take on Android, just like everyone else.

But, do you think that they will be available from the playstore, thus having a potential perceived advantage to devices is the GE devices didn't exist? I agree, I think the X Phone will be close to stock feel with some cool features, etc. and maybe even a GE of it.

If the Motorola X phone is going to go through carriers, it is still going to go through carrier demands on updates and oem skinning. Also as long as Samsung has 90 percent or so of the Android Market, nothing can be really looked upon as an unfair advantage. Samsung themselves when it comes to their phones, follow the same carrier protocol as other phone makers do. When it comes to being able to control your own destiny with regards to carriers, Kudos to Apple for pulling this off and I wish the other manufacturers would come together and do the same.

Actually my conspiracy theory is that Google is reacting to the threat of Samsung. Their trying to real back control to the Google experience.

This whole "intuitive" beliefs is nonsense, what folks consider intuitive is that all devices should behave like their first device. Since Samsung owns the Android market folks are correlating Android with Samsung.

Samsung has the power to control Android by forking it much like Amazon and Tzin did. That is the bigger threat. Also notice samsung already has their infrastructure in place, they have a music store, movie rental /store, messenger, and app store.

As long as Tizen integrates Google Services, Google may not care as much. Remember Google gives away Android because of the services integration built into. And for most people they are going to still use Google Search and any other applications Google publishes with it.

Also Google has one counter stroke Samsung may not be able to stop. The play store. If people find out that Google won't allow the play store on Android (Even though it can run Android apps) and they have to repurchase their applications, they may not make the jump.

I think a Google Edition of the MOTO X will be available on the Play Store.

You're right. Moto themselves have already leaked that there will be non-stock features on the X such as "contextual recognition" which tells the phone whether it's in or being taken out of your pocket, in a moving vehicle etc. There will likely be an X Phone as well as a GE X Phone, same as everyone else.

I too think that this is Google's underlying motive for releasing the Nexus Experience devices. It is a clever and subtle move that will allow Google to give some preferred treatment to Motorola without actually looking like it or at least without making the other OEMs feel left out.

Well, there is really nothing preventing Motorola from doing their own custom launcher or even something like Facebook Home while leaving the underlying OS intact so that it can receive OTA updates directly from Google.

Except going that route makes it much easier to disable Motorola's interface. Motorola probably doesn't want that. Samsung, HTC and everyone else probably don't want that either. You want the Nexus experience? Buy a Nexus or a "with Nexus User Experience" device.

Options. They exist.

I think they'll be as close to nexus as you can get, with features thrown in that are meant to improve the user experience. I also believe Google will use moto as a test bed, so we could actually see a 'reverse nexus' situation. (Motorola introduces features, which then filter BACK into stock android) Motorola will become far more adventurous with out there features, which Google will adopt. (The battery processor thing sounds like one of those ideas)

I obviously don't know, but those sound very similar to the API's that were discussed during the IO keynote. It's possible that those APIs are part of stock going forward.
